  • 1. The computerDescription: A computer is a programmable machine designed to automatically carry out a sequence of arithmetic or logical operations. How did the invention happen? The first computerIn 1801, Joseph Marie Jacquard made animprovement to the textile loom by introducinga series of punched paper cards to allowe hisloom to weave intricate patterns automatically. The resulting Jacquard loom was an importantstep in the development of computers becausethe use of punched cards to define wovenpatterns can be viewed as an early form of programmability. What was the first one like? The first computer looked very different from a modern computer. Itwas bigger. The first computers were only in the universities. How did it change people’s lives?  Now the people can write and correct all the documents in the computer.  We can talk to all the people in the world.  We can listen music.  We can make power points to present our work in a more intelligible way. • 2. THE BEST INVENTION IN HISTORY: THE WALKIE-TALKIE Aleix Mando 3 rd ESO Description A walkie talkie is a hand-held portable, two-way radio transceiver. Who invented it? When? Donald L: Hings invented the walkie-talkie during the Second World War (1939 -1945) What was he first one like? The first walkie-talkie looked very different from the modern one. It was a lot bigger and heavier. It weighed between 32 and 38 pounds depending on the battery used and should be carried on the backpac. They called it SCR-300 and was created by the mark of Motorola. How did it change people’s lives? Walkie-talkie are actually used in any setting where portable radio communications are necessary, including military, marine communications, business and public security. Walkie-talkies are also used for personal issues. I think they changed communication making it a lot easier, but at the moment they are disappearing because of the mobile phone. THE PARACHUTEThe parachute is a fabric device used to slow descent through the airThe parachute is a piece of cloth used to save people’s lives when they wantto jump from a plane or a mountain for sports. They are usually made out of light strong cloth, originally silk, but nowadaysthey are made of nylon.Credit for the invention of the first practical parachute frequently goes toSebastien Lenormand who demonstrated the parachute principle in 1783.However, parachutes had been imagined and sketched by Leonardo DaVinci (1452-1519) centuries earlier in Florence.Actually Leonarddo da Vinci, engineer, inventor, anatomist, botanic was thefirst in studying the weight of a person in relation to a parachute. Hestudied the birds and the body of people. He did his first prototype beforehe died but he could never test his invention on people. The first parachute looked very similar to the modern one. It was onlydifferent in the form, it was bigger and triangular and weighed almost 100kilos.The invention of the parachute didn’t change people’s lives completely. Before and now the parachute saves lives, but now people can use it forleisure as well, because jumping from a plane is an extreme sport. • 4. THE UNDERGROUND• Underground or subway in American English is an electric passenger railway in an urban area with a high capacity and frequency. Rapid transit systems are typically located either in underground tunnels or on elevated rails above street level.• The London Underground is a rapid transit system in the United Kingdom, serving a large part of Greater London and some suburbs. It incorporates the oldest section of underground railway in the world, which opened in 1863 and now forms part of the Circle, Hammersmith & City, and Metropolitan lines.• The infrastructure of the London Underground includes 11 lines, with 268 stations. Lines on the Underground can be classified into two types, subsurface and deep-level.• The Barcelona Underground is part of the public transportation system of Barcelona. It is an extensive network of electrified railways that run underground in central Barcelona and above ground into the citys suburbs.• There are currently 150 operational stations in the Barcelona Underground, served by the 11 lines in current use, which will increase to 209 when lines L9 and L10 are finally completed. • 5. THE BEST INVENTION IN HISORY IS THE INTERNETThe internet is a global system of interconnected computernetworks that use the standard Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) toserve billions of users worldwide. It is a networkof networks thatconsists of millions of private, public, academic, business andgovernment networks, from local to global scope, that are linkedby a broad array of electronic, wireless and optical networkingtechnologies. The inventor of Internet is Tim Berners-Lee in 1989.The price of the Internet depends from the company you use athome. It costs approximately between twenty and fifteen eurosper month. Thanks to the Internet you can search for information, see webpages, send and receive mails, buy things and talk to people.I think that the Internet is the best invention of the historybecause you can talk to different people from different countries atthe same time. It is very useful to do your homework as well. Pol Batiste 3rd ESO
