Thrill is a genre that uses suspense, tension and excitement as the main elements in the film.
The subgenres of thrillers are: mystery, crime and psychological. Thrillers are mostly characterised by an atmosphere of menace, violence, crime and murder by showing society as dark, corrupt and dangerous.
They also promote on moods, such as a high level of anticipation, adrenaline rush, arousal, ultra-heightened expectation, uncertainty, anxiety and sometimes even terror.

Thriller trailers tend to start off slow so that we get a basic idea of what the storyline is. The trailer then speeds up show numerous shots to create tension and only show us a few clips so that we anticipate more.
The music is a little quiet and some have nursery rhymes as they tend to be more effective.
The trailer shows the film to be quite normal to start off with.
The actors tend to be well known and some of the actors who plays the villain have been used before in other thrillers.
The heart beat is used quite a lot to create the atmosphere.
Transitions such as fade in and out of black, fade and flash are used a lot and most of the time the flash is used to be like lightning.
