How To Make Your Own Volcano

  1. 1. How to make your own Volcano!
  2. 2. You will need <ul><li>A piece of cardboard and plenty of newspaper </li></ul><ul><li>Paper Mache glue </li></ul><ul><li>Paint </li></ul><ul><li>Red food dye </li></ul><ul><li>Plastic drinks bottle </li></ul><ul><li>Vinegar </li></ul><ul><li>Funnel and measuring jug </li></ul><ul><li>Few drops of liquid dishwashing detergent </li></ul><ul><li>Baking soda </li></ul>
  3. 3. step 1 Glue your bottle to a cardboard base
  4. 4. step 2 Get your glue ready. UPVA mixed with water works well. A paint tray makes it less messy
  5. 5. step 3 Roll balls of newspaper around in your glue
  6. 6. step 4 Build up your volcano from the base….. no rush, take your time !
  7. 7. step 5 Keep going until your volcano starts to take shape
  8. 8. step 6 Then you need thin strips of newspaper to neaten it all up
  9. 9. step 7 You can now mould your volcano to any shape you like Make sure you leave the bottle opening free from paper
  10. 10. step 8 After you glue has dried (Overnight perhaps) Its ready for painting
  11. 11. step 9 Again the colours and style is up to you, remember all volcanoes are unique!
  12. 12. step 10 You can add texture, twigs for trees, moss for vegetation and even a few buildings nearby if you like
  13. 13. Eruption time - Ingredients <ul><li>Vinegar – Fill half the bottle </li></ul><ul><li>A few drops of red food colouring </li></ul><ul><li>2 tea spoons of baking soda </li></ul><ul><li>Liquid detergent or ground tablets work too. </li></ul>
  14. 14. <ul><li>Add your vinegar with a few drops of food dye </li></ul><ul><li>Then add your baking soda and detergent </li></ul><ul><li>It should then erupt, if not give it a gentle stir, then stand well back </li></ul><ul><li>For more detailed instructions click here - </li></ul>
