World Wide Web - is a system of interlinked hypertext documents accessed via the Internet. With a web browser, one can view web pages that may contain text, images, videos, and other multimedia, and navigate between them via hyperlinks. Chapter 2Review of Related LiteratureFOREIGN According to Yang et al. (1996), the effectiveness of a website is based on the companys ability to customize its site to the predictors that customer value. The website success depends on the system use, system design quality, information quality and enjoyment/playfulness (Aladwani &Palvia, 2002). These factors increase customers trust toward website’s (Lee Katterattanakul & Hong 2(05). Organizations are encouraged to improve information and service quality and their website design should be customer oriented. Online service encounter satisfaction was higher when information content at the website is detailed and comprehensive (Shankar et al. 2000). Extrinsic motivation can be gauged by the website’s ability to attract existing customers and provide them with services such as redemption of rewards and to assess the effectiveness of the use of the website on the internet in the tourist promotion through the use of website to get Page 13
  14. 14. information from the visitors entering the website and it reveals that the website has a role in making the travel decision. (Shankar et al. 2000)How to Build a Small Business Website with WordPress According to James A. Martin, When you’re considering hiring a website designer to create, maintain and update your site. Its a perfectly reasonable option, especially if you have no knowledge of -- or zero interest in learning -- website programming. But there is a DIY option well worth considering: creating a site with WordPress. WordPress is essentially a highly flexible content management system that can serve asthe foundation for a blog or a fully-fledged small business website for online marketing orecommerce. With a WordPress-built site, you can easily add new pages and blog posts yourself;no knowledge of HTML, CSS or any other mind-numbing acronyms is required. You can customize the look of your site so that its unique. You can add new capabilitiesvia hundreds of plug-ins. Plus, your site will be search-engine friendly from the get-go. Andusing plug-ins such as the All in One SEO Pack, you can optimize each page and post to boost itssearch engine rankings. To build a site , you need to download WordPress from WordPress.org. The software isfree because its open source. Even better, many WordPress themes (design templates) and plug-ins are free. The only thing you may need to pay for is Web hosting, which can be as low as $6 amonth. (Alternatively, you can host your WordPress site on your own server.) Page 14
  15. 15. TO USE OR NOT TO USE CMS According to Sufyan bin Uzayr as web designers, we should all be aware of theimportance of CMSs. Simply put, a CMS helps in managing the website in an efficient manner. If you are running a photo gallery, a blog, a news site or any similar website that requiresconstant updates, nothing beats the ease which a CMS such as WordPress or Drupal can offeryou. When Should You Use a CMS? Using a CMS also ensures that you save your time (and eventually, efforts). You no longer need to hard-code your website in HTML or CSS – the CMS takes care of everything. Just install it, and you are presented with a neat administration panel that lets you tweak, modify and run your website in the manner you deem fit. Furthermore, with the availability of numerous themes, templates as well as plugins/extensions, a CMS can be made to accomplish virtually any task when it comes to web design. Using a CMS for clients also makes sense – not all of us are gifted with tech-savvy clients all the time, and more often than not, most clients will have a hard time figuring their way out with hard-coded sites sans CMS. CMSs also offer excellent editorial control over your content, and better user management for your website. Lastly, many CMSs provide SEO out-of-the-box. Of course, you can always ensure that Page 15
  16. 16. your hand-crafted HTML pages conform to SEO norms and beat even the most search-engine friendly CMS out there. When Shouldn’t You Use a CMS? Generally, manually designing your website’spages should be considered as an option for static websites with few pages that arerarely updated. You can add personality to your website, and you are limited onlyby your creativity — in other words, you need not be bound by a CMS.When you decide to write extensive code for your website, you can pay attention toevery minute detail – a blessing for small websites (and a curse for larger ones, pununintended). Since you are no longer restricted by platform-specific limitations, youcan design and craft individual components of the website manually.Another point to consider should be security. Most CMSs release newupdates/fixes/patches on a regular basis; however, on a generalized level, a CMSinvites more hackers than a hard-coded website. Most importantly, hard-coding your website, though time-consuming initially, alsobrings down the time and efforts required in maintenance of the website in the longrun – there are no CMSs to update or plugins to uninstall. You design your pages, you publish them. Page 16
  17. 17. Web Developer Class: How to Use Extensions in Joomla According to Nathan Segal When you set up a site with Joomla! you should have enough information to build a basic site, but if you want more options, youll need to use extensions. In this article youll learn how to browse the Joomla, extensions directory, and download, install and configure an extension. You can search for extensions or browse through the listings. Once you find a category that you like, you might have to go deeper into it by clicking on a sub-category. As you look at each extension, youll see a short description, whether it will work for Joomla! 1.5 or 1.6 and youll notice a voting section, as well. Extensions are commercial or free, meaning that if its commercial, youll have to pay for a license to use it. To learn more about an Extension, click on the name of it. When you find the extension you want to use, right-click on it and in the popup window, choose Save Link As, and save the file to your computer. Be aware that when you download the file, it may contain installation instructions so its important to check for those. You might also need to extract the file to find the correct one for uploading.LOCAL According to Romula A. Virola and Lea H. Amoro , The Philippine has a natural competitive advantage in tourism because of the warmth of the people and its natural wonders that are yet to be fully harnessed, the government recognizes tourism as a major Page 17
  18. 18. contributor to the generation of foreign exchange earnings, investments and revenuesand to the growth of the country’s output.Philippines is known with its tropical rainforests, mountain, beaches, coral reefs andislands that every Filipino can be proud of. For the first time in the history of thePhilippine tourism, the total visitor arrivals in the 2011 reached 11.28% higher than in2010, the Department of Tourism (DOT) reports. With the full rollout of the new “It’s More Fun in the Philippines” internationalcampaign, Secretary Ramon Jimenez remains confident of achieving another record-breaking year. “Our marketing resource has grown exponentially because of otherpeople’s contributions in kind. We will continue to build on these positive energies toattract 4.2 million this year,” the Secretary enthused.“It’s now trending number one in the world in Twitter,” Tourism Secretary RamonJimenez said. The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 1 said that the tourismcampaign “It’s more fun in the Philippines” was effective as it gained positive feedbacksfrom social networking sites like facebook and twitter. Evangeline Danat said that thecampaign slogan created an impact to foreigners coming in the region especially in SanJuan, as the surfing capital of the north. One way of promoting Philippine tourism is by creating a website of it that let otherpeople know how beautiful the country is. The DOT also launched its Page 18
  19. 19. website: http://itsmorefuninthephilippines.com/ in order to push the campaign since this slogan will brand the new Philippine tourism campaign to be rolled out in international markets, according to reports. (ANL/MHH-PIA 1 La Union)SYNTHESIS The goal of everyone who wants to create a interactive website for a resort is to have communicate to their client anywhere they are. Interactive website is a modern way and the best way to promote a certain project. The group is creating a dynamic website that if the client decided to change content or update the website he/she don’t need to do hard coding anymore. The use of Content Management System(CMS) and Wordpress is a great help for this project, they can offer a n easy way to update the content, to change the look of the resort, to add a file. This would lessen the work of Admin in updating his website. Joomla can help by putting extension to the website, this extension can be free or commercial. Calatagan Peninsula Resort’s previous customers, clients, who experienced the place has done so many blog reviews as seen by some blogger’s site. Thus, the group wants to show that the resort we are promoting is not only offering fun and excitement. Page 19
  20. 20. Review of Related Study FOREIGN All current travel and tourism transactions can be performed on-line on the Internet. The opportunity presented by the industry, now the biggest in the world (WTTC,1998), is huge. The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) reported in World Economic Impact in 1998 that Travel and Tourism – encompassing transport, accommodation, catering, recreation and services for travelers – is expected to grow to US$ 10.0 trillion of economic activity and 328 million jobs by 2010. In 1998, Travel and Tourism industry contributed about 8.2% to worldwide Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and this is expected to increase to 8.7% by 2010 (WTTC, 1998). The business opportunity offered by the Internet presents a challenge to new comers and existing players in the tourism industry to provide effective tourism website. However, capturing the massive travel and tourism market of up to $10.0 trillion by 2010(WTTC, 1998) will require extensive efforts. An effective website should at least have useful content, be informative, accurate, up-to-date, and comprehensive (Chen and Sheldon, 1997; Jung and Baker, 1998; Martin, 1997; Nielsen, 1998). From the design perspective, an effective website could mean intuitive, easy to navigate, easy to use, consistent, accessible, appropriate, interesting, fast, and fun (Chen and Sheldon, 1997; Murphy et al, 1996a; Nielsen 1998). Resort industry gets best practices study on internet marketing and distribution Page 20
  21. 21. A new study has been launched to examine “Best Practices on Internet Marketingand Distribution for Resorts,”. The report was initiated by the Hospitality Sales &Marketing Association International’s (HSMAI) Resort Marketing Special InterestGroup.According to the findings, many resorts are still at an early stage of adoption of Internetmarketing; only about one-half of the participating resorts actively practice search engine optimization and many do not participate actively in third party online travelagency programs due to a perception that these sites specialize in rates well below theirtargets. There is a corresponding lack of connection between most resort’s distributionstrategy and their revenue management practices.“It is clear after investigating this topic that when a resort moves its business from offlineto online channels of distribution there is far more involved than just changing channelsof distribution,” states Cindy Estis Green, director of the study and managing partner ofThe Estis Group. “Working with online channels entails operational issues includingcustomer service and reservations, direct sales, awareness and image campaigns, directmail, special promotions, lead generation, and customer relationship management,” sheadds. The report benchmarked participating resorts in key Internet marketing metricssuch as: total marketing spend as a percentage of total revenue; marketing efficiency;percentage of electronic channel revenue as a percentage of total revenue; percentage ofe-marketing spend to total revenue; and direct web revenue per web marketing dollarspent. Based upon these metrics, participants were categorized based upon their Page 21
  22. 22. efficiency in marketing spend and Internet revenue volume. The resulting categorieswere: experimenters, champions, novices, and “gotta get out of this box.”Emerging from the study is a series of eight building blocks that establish a soundstrategy for the 2005 online world. The full report details each of the topics.Website Planning: setting goals, planning, and designing a website.Establishing Infrastructure: building the systems to support a website’s goals.Building Traffic: search engine optimization, pay-per-click advertising, link strategies, email campaigns and stimulating group opportunities.Dovetailing with Offline: websites (internal and external) and how they function withoutthe interaction of sales and rooms operational teams such as reservation call centers, customer service, revenue management, and offline marketing.Third Party Influence: considering third party intermediaries including wholesalers, search engines, meta-search engines, GDS vendors and affiliate marketers.Closing the Loop with Customers: incorporating customer feedback regarding service, travel patterns and product preferences in an Internet marketing plan.Keeping Score: a series of metrics to measure success and failure, tracking cost/benefitanalyses, post-campaign analyses, etc.Keeping Up with the Joneses: knowing what may be applicable in the 2-5 year timehorizon in the areas of new technology, new communication methods and newdistribution channels. I trust this wide range of information - as provided by our DOT attaches and regional directors - will help our tourism and hospitality educators and travel practitioners / stakeholders in bringing about change in the development of travel and tourism in the country.” Emailcast by: Department of Tourism - Region III (Central Luzon)SYNTHESIS Thesis, studies and researches all over the world speak of the same thing, to gain tourist and make it in demand in the eye of local or foreign countries. From bloggers review about the Calatagan Peninsula Resort we can say that we can offer more accurate information that can caught the attention of the reader. We have unique concepts and ideas that we can present to our client and our group accept suggestions from our client to produce a productive project Giving all our skills, creativity and teamwork, we are sure that we can produce a inter active website that will satisfy our client. Chapter 3Methodology Page 25
  26. 26. The methodology is an important component that essentially maps out the methods that you will utilize when researching and writing this lengthy chapter. The methodology chapter includes a general definition or some type of overview of the approach that you will use in conducting your research. This chapter composes of the type of research, project design, software development tool, software evaluation tool, software testing to be used in the development of a website. The proponents will be using internet technology, articles and books in gathering the information needed for the proposed project.Planning The proponents will work with the client to determine the clients’ high-level objectives for the project and will prepare a project plan. The proponents gathered specific information about the resort through interviewing the client and visiting the place. in interviewing the client, the proponents would like to ask: 1) What do they expect from the website 2) What are the functionalities they would like to see 3) Are there any existing websites that they would like to pattern to. Page 26
  27. 27. This would make the proponents collate their ideas carefully to execute the project plan properly.Design The proponents will complete the business requirements and the design of the resorts Website. The proponents will record all the details and information’s from the client. Production The proponents will build the software system based on the requirements documented. The proponents will make sure that during the development of the website there would be open communication between the group and the clients until further agreement has been made.Testing Page 27
  28. 28. The proponents will install the Resort’s Website, test it, and continue to test it. The proponents have encountered problems while publishing in the first time but after several weeks the certain Website has been successful and introduced it to the client. This figure is divided to three parts the first part was the input part where all the neededknowledge requirement, hardware, software where listed. Knowledge requirement explains whatare the skills needed to complete this project, next is the hardware and the software in this partall the needed hardware and software where listed specifically. If all of three requirement wherealready obtain then that is the time that the output will be produce. All the process to produce theoutput is also stated on the third box from the analysis then to be followed by the designed andlastly the development.Technical Background Hardware and Software The proponents’ needs hardware and software to be able to finish their title proposal, Hardware is a comprehensive term for all of the physical parts of a computer, as distinguished from the data it contains or operates on, and the software that provides instructions for the hardware to accomplish tasks. Software means computer instructions Page 29
  30. 30. or data, It is anything that can be stored electronically. Software can be thought of as thevariable part of a computer and hardware the invariable part.Hardware • Computer/ Laptop A Computer is a general purpose machine, commonly consisting of digital circuitry, that accepts (inputs), stores, manipulates, and generates (outputs) data as numbers, text, graphics, voice, video files, or electrical signals, in accordance with instructions called a program. This is the most important hardware to be used. This is where all the work is done: coding, editing and designing. Considering 2GB of ram, 160GB of Hard Drive and the CPU is a Celeron 2.2Ghz. • Digital Single Lens Reflex Camera (DSLR Camera) Basically a digital based camera where you look through the lens on the camera that will also be capturing the images. While the exposure is made an internal mirror moves out of the way to let light reach the camera sensor to the images can be recorded and stored. Page 30
  31. 31. The proponents used this in taking pictures an videos for the website and the AVP. • Tripod Tripod comes from Greek words meaning "3"+"feet" and refers to a three-legged structure. The proponents used this to make it easier for the camera man to shoot and take pictures.Software • PHP Hypertext Preprocessor, An open source, server- side, HTML embedded scripting language used to create dynamic Web pages. It is one of the first developed server-side scripting languages to be embedded into an HTML source document rather than calling an external file to process data. Page 31
  32. 32. • MySQL MySQL is a relational database system that is used to store information. MySQL can store many types of data from something as tiny as a single character to as large as complete files or graphics. Although it can be accessed by most programing languages, it is often coupled with PHP because they work together with ease. The proponents used this to create the database system of the website.• Adobe Photoshop The software allows users to manipulate, crop, resize, and correct color on digital photos. The software is particularly popular amongst professional photographers. The proponents used this to make pictures/images more attractive to the viewers and at the same time, it can also be used for designing the website• Adobe AfterEffects Adobe After Effects is primarily used for creating motion graphics and visual effects. After Effects allows users to animate, alter and Page 32
  33. 33. composite media in 2D and 3D space with various built-in tools and third party plug-ins, as well as individual attention to variables like parallax and user-adjustable angle of observation. The proponents used this to create visual effects and motion graphics for the AVP of the website• Adobe Audition Adobe Audition software is a complete multitrack digital audio recorder, mixer and editor for Windows. When used along with a Windows sound card, the program provides a complete digital recording studio experience to the users computer. The program offers flexible work flow through its multitrack recording studio and is used in producing music, radio broadcasts, or audio for video. Adobe Audition also supports thousands of royalty-free music loops that can be used to compile songs and soundtracks. The proponents used this for editing, mixing and sound effects for the AVP of the website• Google Map API Page 33
  34. 34. A map and directions Web site from Google. Similar to MapQuest, Google Maps provides turn-by-turn directions to a destination along with 2D satellite and 3D earth views; however, Maps also offers photographic views of the turns, which show the real streets and surroundings. The proponents used this in creating map which directs you to Calatagan Peninsula ResortComparative Analysis on Websites Golden Sunset Resort (Calatagan, Batangas) The group has chosen to conduct its analysis with another resort that has already established its website, the Golden Sunset Resort in Calatagan, Batangas. The website was hosted in www.goldensunset.ph and this is used by the resort to advertise their services to their clients, just as the plan for the Calatagan Peninsula Resort. Page 34
  35. 35. (Homepage of the website: www.goldensunset.ph) Website presents itself of the functions requested to promote the business through the web. In its navigation bar you would see the basics that would be needed by perspective clients. Page 35
  36. 36. Golden Sunset also has the maps feature, but it does not use the Google API. It also has the maps going to Batangas from Manila, but it is basically illustrated in a simple sketch. The group aims to highlight the major cities from Manila to Batangas so the future clients of Calatagan Peninsula Resort would have an easier access to the resort. The concept of Golden Sunset may deem to be the same with this project, Calatagan Peninsula Resort website but the group hopes to enhance its features so that users who would be accessing the website would appreciate the beauty of the resort and hopefully check-in eventually and refer the resort to their friends. We obliged to the needs of the clients to make advertising easier for them.Description of prototype Proponents need to see what would be the expected output of the project. In this part thegroup decided to show what would be the expected content of every page that will be created, for the Homepage this page will contain an AVP that will show “why choose calatagan peninsularesort” slogan to the viewer and a little brief of history. Rate page will show all the prices ofrooms, special offer for activities that they can enjoy. Next is the Experience page this isdifferent with the rate page because this page only contains what to expect if you join theiractivities. Gallery page contains all the photos about the resort like for example the rooms, theactivities and facilities. Last is the Contact us Page this is a page that contains email address, telephone number, including the Map that the group will create. Page 36

  49. 49. Implementation Plan The following is the group’s implementation plan for the project Calatagan Peninsula Resort Website which would help the client towards using the output efficiently to cater to the increasing demands of technology. A. Overview The project is an interactive website for the use of the Calatagan Peninsula Resort to promote the resort through the use of the web via internet advertising. B. Scope It is a project to be done through the use of Apache, PHP and MySQL. The PHP portion is set to involve the following topics: Functions, Post and Sessions for holding a single user transaction in the database. The group would also be incorporating 3D in the project through a 3D Virtual Tour Map of the resort to be done with the use of the software: Adobe After Effects and Adobe Audition. The map incorporated in the project would enable the user to enter data that would calculate the easiest way he can arrive at the resort. The use of the Google Map Page 49
  50. 50. API would enable the group to render the project which would only cover the major cities in the Philippines. Information on the website that has been used towards the development of this project is coursed through the Calatagan Peninsula Resort representatives. Adding Online Inquiry would enable the user to send comments, reviews and concerns to the admin. This Inquiry will send via email in that case no other form of communication will be accepted in this fieldC. Timeline/Budget The project is expected to be finished during the 2nd Trimester of 2012-2013. The group would also like to involve the stakeholders on this project, the representatives of the Calatagan Peninsula Resort to develop the project fully according to what they would expect it to be. The timeline of the project would involve the following processes: Planning, Design, Production, Testing and Distribution of the Website Page 50
