Industry VoIP provider Business Case The company had their VoIP desktop application already in place. However the present application was facing big competition from VoIP providers. The present desktop application was providing the feature to make internet calls as well as GSM/cellular calls. Though the application had good features yet the no. of users were low as expected to generate business. Need – need was conspicuously visible that VoIP application had to subscribe more users so as to sustain the business by generating revenues (through ads and call credits). Solution Entellects analysed this business case and resolved it by proposing mobile dialer app for the desktop based VoIP application over all major devices/platform. Major devices like iPhone/iPad, BlackBerry, Android, Symbian. We have predicted this immense need of VoIP dialer app over hand-held devices. The solution not only minified the competition but also greatly helped to expand the outreach to the smarter audience because of availability right on to the people’s mobile devices.
  • 3. ENTELLECTS INC The application was so smarter to pull the users contact from every possible source and it prompts the user whether to use the VoIP credit or his/her regular PSTN based call. The app made the user very easy to dial the calls just simpler the way he/she make the regular call through the VoIP dialer UI. Branding platform from Apple store & other app stores – As every iPhone app is published on Apple store; this eventually served the branding platform for the VoIP dialer app. The VoIP provider company gets recognized through the Apple store visitors. This creates another advantage for a VoIP provider company that causes its buzz around through mobile app market of leading brands. Key Features Quick Dialer Interface: A quick access to dialer app has been provisioned along with the method that asks user through which he/she wishes to setup the call (VoIP/SIM credit or GSM). Buddy Locator: People can locate their buddies/contacts by sharing the location of their device via app. Contact importer from social media sites: Apart from using the phonebook the app is so smarter that it crawls over the social networking site account of the user and pick up the numbers. The app then maps the numbers with the respective user’s friends and appends them in the existing contact list of the app so people can chat to their online buddies that are not on the same platform. Facebook Integrated chat station: As indicated in just said point, Facebook & Twitter integration was provided to bring the social feel into the app. Hence chat integration and sharing capabilities were imbued in the app to make it a single chat station.
  • 4. ENTELLECTS INC Chat/call log: Users can check their chat/call log made through their app. Plan settings: Users can check in for new plans and subscribe to it. Users can also make payments/buy credits from options in plan settings. VoIP to GSM & GSM to VoIP call facility: Users can dial the numbers of any network they want to connect to, with an added advantage to make the free calls to users of the same VoIP provider. Key Issues / challenges There have many challenges that cropped one after another while developing this VoIP dialer app. Majorly it required a prominent telecomm domain expertise. It required dealing with Internet protocols and to modulate and demodulate the voice signals at both ends. Infrastructure: A VoIP telephone needs a signalling and a medium to setup the channel for communication. After channel setup it requires the analog voice signal modulation to digitize and chop the resulting data into packets. Now over IP (internet protocol) transmission of this digitized voice in several packets can happen over a packet-switched network. The reverse process is to be applied to decode the data at the receiving user’s end. Costly Infrastructure was incurred implementing this process. Video Codec: To match the expected video quality appropriate video codecs were to be used. Backend connectivity: Connectivity with backend which is again an automated billing system. It’s always a critical task to connect any application to the billing system.

Branding: Definitely it raised their revenue but also added value to their brand intangibly that they would cash while rising as the leading brand in VoIP providers. As it was developed for all the major devices it was to get audience’s attention via leading mobile app stores. Increased Revenue: Because of the good no. of users and credit buyers, it raised the company’s value in the market and hence its revenue. Life made easy: The dialer app not only benefited the VoIP provider company but also eased its users where they just have to dial as simply as they use to dial for a regular GSM based call. Again added features like buddy-locator on maps, chat, group conferencing, social media sharing, auto-contact segregator and low VoIP call rates made the users really happy. Simplicity: The simplicity to use and the calls through the app made its craze in the VoIP market through word of mouth marketing.
