    4. How can PARENTS help with transition?
      • Purchase all necessary supplies on the list.
      • Stock up so you can replenish supplies throughout the year.
      • Bring students up in early August to practice lockers and put supplies in the locker.
      • Get your BV Parents Online password from Julie Ablan – and check it often.
      • Have your child show you School Center/teacher websites! ALL teachers in 6 th grade use it to post homework and due dates.
      • Check your student’s planner.
      • Help your child relax! Transition will take time.
      • Set aside separate, quiet homework place and time.
      • You are a key part of your childs’ success at OTMS. We must work as a team.
    5. How will OTMS help with the transition?
      • A great resource for parents, students, and teachers.
      • Access to School Center/teacher websites for online access to homework and due dates.
      • Weekly principal communication
      • School calendar of events.
      • Class content material/curriculum
    6. BV Parents Online and Grades
      • Password and User ID can be obtained in person from Julie Ablan in the office.
      • Parents can access grades for all classes and individual assignments.
      • Please check “details” for comments.
      • Dashes or Blanks mean the assignment has not been turned in by the student. This lowers the grade average.
      • Check it often!!! This is our primary grade communication!
      • Instruction pamphlets available.
    7. Lockers/Passing Period
      • During passing period students should:
      • Use the restroom
      • Remember to LOCK their locker
      • Socialize during passing period
      • We are there to help!
    8. “A” Days and “B” Days
      • These are classes that only meet EVERY OTHER day.
      • Spanish alternates with Music.
      • Guided Study alternates with PE.
    9. Spanish
      • Spanish alternates with Music (A/B day)
      • Spanish is considered an all year class with semester grades .
      • If students haven’t had Spanish before – they can still be successful in this class.
      • In 7 th grade Spanish is not required.
    10. Homework:
      • Average 60 minutes daily
      • Students need to use their planner – in EACH CLASS.
      • School Center has assignments and due dates posted as well.
      • Flight Time after school with 6 th grade teachers.
      • This is the biggest change for 6 th graders.
    11. 6 th grade Homework Policy
      • Homework completion on time is ESSENTIAL to your child’s success in learning.
      • Deductions are taken for work that is turned in late – however there are “Deadline Notices” that can be used as one day extensions without deduction.
      • If homework is not completed on time, students will be expected to stay after school to complete it.
      • 6 th grade has a specific homework policy (brochure available).
    12. Absences
      • Please call the attendance line, not the teachers, when your student is absent.
      • Check School Center or call a friend to stay on top of work.
      • 2 days to make up work for every one excused absence.
      • Students are responsible for gathering their make up work when absent. Learning self advocacy is really important.
      • No gum, candy, food, or pop in the 6th grade pod and hallways.
      • Cell phones need to be kept in lockers and not used during the day.
      • Backpacks are to remain in lockers.
      • Students must be in the classroom, have the necessary supplies, and be ready to begin class when the bell rings.
      • Distracting items are to be left at home and not brought to school.
      • Students must respect themselves and others at all times.
