  2. Geom73.notebook January 10, 2012 7.3  Formulas Involving Polygons Names of polygons: table on p.307 (know them!) Lets find the sum of the interior angles of some polygons... 2
  3. Geom73.notebook January 10, 2012 Lets work up a formula! Theorem: The sum Si of the measures of the angles of a  polygon with n sides is given by: Si = (n2)180. Now lets take a look at the same polygons, but instead consider the sum of  the exterior angles if exactly 1 exterior angle is taken at each vertex... Theorem: If one exterior angle is taken at each vertex, the sum Se of  the measures of the exterior angles of a polygon is 360o. 3
  4. Geom73.notebook January 10, 2012 Our last point to make!  How many diagonals can you draw inside of a polygon with n sides? d = n(n  3) 2 EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITY: Write an explanation for this formula.  What does the n mean? What is the n  3? Why divide by 2? due by tomorrow Ex: Find Si, Se, and d (# of diagonals) for a dodecagon. 4
  5. Geom73.notebook January 10, 2012 Ex: What is the name of a polygon if the sum of the measures of  its interior angles is 1080o? EXIT SLIP: Find Si and Se for: a) a 93gon b) a heptagon Homework: p.309 #3a,3d,4,5,7,10 DUE Thursday 5
