  • 1. 10.8 (The Power Theorems) and 10.9 (Circumference and Arc Length)We are now in the last two sections of chapter 10! I would like you to read thematerial in the book that corresponds with these sections.That is, read pp.493-494 and 499-500.I understand that math textbooks sometimes seem impossible to comprehend,but just take it slow. When I read new math, I read it in my head, I read it outloud, and I probably repeat difficult parts 2 or 3 times before I move on.Section 10.8 talks about a couple of segments that can be put into usefulequations. For example, the first theorem in the section says that if you have twochords intersecting in a circle, then you can multiply the segments of one chord,multiply the segments of the other chord, and the products will be equal. If thetheorem AND my words are confusing, look at the picture they so convenientlyprovide. To the left of the picture, there is an equation. Identify each piece inthe picture with the equation, and you will start to see what the theorem says.Section 10.9 discusses the circumference of a circle. Hey! We already knowwhat that is! The section goes on to talk about arc length. An arc is a fraction (orpercent) of the circle, so the length of it would be a fraction (or percent) of thecircumference. If the arc is ½ of the circle, or 180 in measure, then the length ofit would be ½ of the circumference of the circle. If the book AND my words areconfusing, look at the sample problems and read through the solutions.There is a back to this paper.
  • 2. Two sections at once might be confusing, so I suggest breaking it up. You couldwork through 10.8 on Saturday morning (late morning of course) and 10.9 onSunday afternoon (and by afternoon, I probably mean 9PM on Sunday night).Your homework for these sections will be p.495 #1-6 and p.501 #2,3,4ab,5bc.Start the homework!On Monday, I will want to see if you attempted the homework. I will answerquestions you have over the material and the homework. I’m going to wantparticipation, and if you don’t read the book or do the assignment, you aren’tgoing to be able to do a lot of participating. I’m not a fan of teaching zombies.
