  • 2. Goal Side Positioning• Many times young players will not recognize that they need to position themselves in order to prevent the offense player from having a direct path to the goal.• The words and terms are the cues to get players into the right defensive position or spot on the field.
  • 3. Teaching Defensive Positioning• Visual aids prove to be very effective when explaining to players how to be “goal side”.• Defensive Issues – “Fix What is Wrong”.• Instead of cones….use hoola hoops!
  • 4. Teaching Defensive Positioning

Teaching Good Form• Athletic stance• Positioned between player with the ball and the goal.• Have players point to player with the ball and the net as they are learning this tactical piece.• When in game mode, players need to be mindful of their speed of approach and angle.• The ball is still the most important “player” on the field.
