  4. 4. Benchmarks (Grades 3-5)<br />The final benchmarks, before the End of Grade testing (EOGs), will be held on March 16th – the 18th. This is the last opportunity for students to prepare before taking the official EOGs. <br />6th Grade Registration Meeting<br />On Tuesday, March 9, 2010, Fifth graders will have a meeting at 9:30am to learn all of the information needed when moving on to middle school. <br />
  5. 5. 5th Grade trip to Charlotte on March 10th, 2010<br />On March 10th, Irving Park fifth graders will take a field trip to the Discovery Place in Charlotte, NC. <br /> Discovery Place is dedicated to providing high-quality, high-energy science experiences that enlighten, educate, and inspire. There are plenty of activities and programs for all ages. <br />
  6. 6. Battle of the Books (BOB)<br />On Thursday, March 11th, 2010, 4th and 5th graders from Irving Park will compete in the district’s Battle of the Books Challenge. <br />
  7. 7. Irving Park’s Jump Rope for Heart<br />Jump Rope for Heart will take place on March 2nd – 9th. The very last day for donations will be March 10th. For more information, check out Irving Park’s JRFH home page at: or click the picture above.<br />
  8. 8. Irving Park PTASpring Book Fair<br /> The Irving Park PTA will host a spring Book Fair on March 22 -26. All proceeds go to the Media Center and funds will allow us to purchase many new books. Our current focus is science and easy/fiction books.<br /> Watch for an appearance by Clifford the Big Red Dog on March 23 at 6:30pm. <br />

  10. 10. March Music Programs<br />Second & Third Grade Performances<br />Tuesday, March 23<br />Second Grade<br />10:00 am and 6:00 pm<br />Third Grade<br />12:00 pm and 7:00 pm<br />All performing students are asked to wear white shirts and dark colored shorts.<br />

  12. 12. 7TH Annual Charles Drew Blood Drive<br />The blood drive is scheduled for Thursday, March 25th from 1:30pm – 6pm in the auditorium at Irving Park school. <br />A few important reminders:<br /><ul><li> Someone needs blood every two seconds in this country
  13. 13. Victims of accidents and violence need blood on demand
  14. 14. Cancer patients and surgery patients need blood</li></ul>To participate, you must:<br /><ul><li> Be 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds
  15. 15. Bring your drivers license or blood donor card

Return this signed form to Irving Park c/o Mary Overbey </li></li></ul><li>Pre-Kindergarten Applications<br />Guilford County Schools Pre-K application period begins February 13 through April 23, 2010. The district serves about 1250 children in 48 elementary schools based on results of a developmental assessment which indicates need for school readiness.<br /><ul><li>Applications are available beginning Monday, February 15, throughout the application period on the GCS webpage. Parents may print and fax the application to the pre-K office.
