How To Make A Simple Square Pincushion - Presentation Transcript

  1. How to:
    • make a simple & speedy square pincushion
    • (that looks a lot more fancy than it really is)
    • kootoyoo…click & stitch
    • All we need for this super cute pincushion: is a square of fabric, your sewing machine (you can make it by hand though), a long needle, & some embroidery floss.
    • This one looks really special because of all the hand stitching on the napkin but I really like the frayed look too. Or, you could make it in reverse & have hidden seams.
Other fabric options: -Hankerchief -Napkin -Old pillowcase -Worn out tablecloth -Lovely new designer fabric
  2. Step 2:
    • Fold the fabric in half with wrong sides together.
  3. Step 3:
    • Machine stitch along the short sides.
  4. Step 4:
    • Use a ¼ inch seam allowance.
  5. Step 5:
    • Now bring the two short sides in to meet in the middle as pictured.
  6. Step 6:
    • From the centre point machine along one seam only.
  7. Step 7:
    • Pin about an inch from the centre point so that you know where to begin your line of stitching. You can just use your eye – go on be brave.
  8. Step 8:
    • Once you’ve machine the last seam your pincushion should look something like this
     See the opening here?
  9. Step 9:
    • Stuff your pincushion.
  10. Step 10:
    • Stuff the pincushion so it’s nice & plump.
  11. Step 11:
    • Back stitch the stuffing hole closed.
  12. Step 12:
    • Choose buttons for the top & base of the pincushion. This hides the point of the seams & helps the cushion to sit nicely.
  13. Step 13:
    • You need a big long needle so that you can get easily through the thickness of the pincushion.
    • Hide your knot by entering the cushion at the edge somewhere & bringing the needle out at the centre of the back of the pincushion.
  14. Step 14:
    • Then pulling the knot firmly but slowly through the pincushion until you feel the resistance at the centre point.
  15. Step 15:
    • Just make a couple of stitches at the centre point before you sandwich the cushion between your buttons.
  16. Step 16:
    • Once you’ve sewn the button on securely, bring your needle up at the bottom of the cushion.
  17. Step 17:
    • Wrap the floss around the button a couple of times & knot off. Snip of the floss nice & close to the button.
  18. Finished
    • You’re done!
    • Absolutely, positively cheater craft. Super speedy & super cute.
