1. 1. Astronomy Extensions Menu By: Sri K.
 2. 2. Dark Matter and Energy
 3. 3. What is dark matter and energy?
 4. 4.

Dark matter is matter not visible to humans. We know about it though because scientists have seen visible matter and other galaxies act in a very strange matter without a decent explanation. Dark energy is pretty much like dark matter except energy.

Dark matter makes up 25% of the universe while dark energy makes up 70% of the universe. The other 5% of the universe is supposedly is everything else.

 5. 6. How does it impact what we know about astronomy?
 6. 7.

Since dark energy and matter was invented until the 1990’s, a lot of theories invented before then about how the universe was created might be wrong. Due to the fact that dark matter and energy might be what is keeping the universe together.

 7. 8. What are the potential implications if we could harness the power of dark matter and energy?
 8. 10.

Even if we do harvest dark matter or energy, we would be messing with the balance of the universe. Which means that there could be a slight chance that we are destroying the universe piece by piece. Which could cause a bunch of issues.

 9. 11. Black Holes
 10. 12. What is a black hole?
 11. 13.

Black holes are place where gravity has become so strong that when a object enter inside nothing, not even light can escape it.

Black holes are formed when star with great enough gravity burn out of fuel and a supernova happens. What remains of the star is a treacherous black hole.

 12. 16. How do scientists find black holes?
 13. 17.

Scientists find black holes by finding visible light, x-ray, and radio waves emitted by material in the near by environment. These findings are combined with the laws of gravity to find out if the object is orbiting or near a black hole

 14. 19. What is the line of singularity?
 15. 20.

The line of singularity is where time and space stops or pretty much doesn’t exist. This is pretty much the point where everything eventually ends up. Furthermore it is said that the line of singularity is smaller than a atom’s nucleus. Also the line of singularity is one of the biggest mysteries, because the current laws of physics can’t explain it.

 16. 22. What are some theories about the bottom of a black hole?
 17. 23.

One theory is that all the things the enter the black hole just sit there waiting to be compressed.

Another theory is that a black hole has no bottom and that all the things that go into a black hole go in die, and come out of the back end has individually atoms.

 18. 25. Which one do you believe?
 19. 26.

I believe that at the bottom of a black hole you get compressed and break down into individually atoms. Then you just stay at the bottom in individually atoms forever.

 20. 27. Life on other Planets
 21. 28. What is the big idea?
 22. 29.

Many people believe that if there is life on other planets that we could live there too. They think this we because when the sun runs out of fuel and dies it is going to destroy all planets up to earth. Therefore if other life forms could live on other planets we could go to there planet in the future and live there peacefully. Also many movies dealing with extraterrestrial life have affected many humans brains to think that there is life on other planets.

 23. 31. Mars
 24. 32.

Many people believe that there is life on mars because it is the closet planets that we know that might have water. Many people believe that Mars has water because one of the mountains Olympus Mons is made out of ice, and ice is pretty much frozen water.

 25. 34. Titan
 26. 35.

Titan is one of Saturn’s moons. Many people think the Titan has life because there is a chance that the moon has water on it. Many people think this we because of the picture taken by some satellite that passed by Saturn.

 27. 37. Is there life out there?
 28. 38.

Personally I think that there is life somewhere out there, because there so many different galaxies in the universe. Therefore, there has to be some sort of life in the universe.

 29. 39. Is there intelligent life out there?
 30. 40.

Going back to what I said a few slides ago there probably is intelligent life out there just waiting to be discovered by us humans.

 31. 41. UFO’s
 32. 42. What is UFO?
 33. 43.

To many people a UFO is a flying saucer that aliens travel in, but it actually is any type of unidentified flying object. Many people think that a UFO is a flying saucer, because of press and movies.

 34. 45. Area 51
 35. 46.

Area 51 was originally a military runway base that got abandoned after World War II. In the late 1950’s a partnership was created between CIA and Lockheed, the creator of the fastest plane on earth the SR-71 Blackbird. Area 51 was chosen to be the spot of the testing facility because, no commercial flights would go through, it was far away from civilized people, and it was easy to access for military people. People associated Area 51 with UFOs when there were reported sighting near Area 51 of flying object zooming passed the nearby civilized areas.

 36. 48. Is it real?
 37. 49.

In my opinion I think UFOs are not real because there is no hard evidence that there are on earth other than people telling stories about them. Therefore unless hard evidence is given that there is UFOs on earth I shall not believe such tall tales.

 38. 50. Afterthought of whole project?
 39. 51.

Overall this was a excellent project that helped me understand about the universe we live in today.
