  • First ask if everyone knows what Twitter is – if not, go to the website According to Jobvite.com survey of 440 Human Resource Professionals: -72% plan to spend more time recruiting via social media -Half expect to spend less time on job boards -The most popular sites for recruiters & HR Pros: +LinkedIn (used by 95% of those who responded) +Twitter (42%) -66% have successfully hired a candidate through an online social network
  • Twitter is having a bit of an identity crisis – people using Twitter for all sorts of purposes (i.e. deals, jobs, personal updates, political organizing, etc.) Examples: Receive updates on wildfires, Jetblue tickets for under $15.

  • Doug Berg, co-founder of Jobs2Web said "We've had thousands of people visit our Web site from links on Twitter,“ And many find it more appealing to respond to a Twitter job posting, rather than a job board because it allows users to associate the posting with a real face and get to know the recruiter. "Twitter puts the humanity back into recruiting," he said. Students don’t want to be part of the “herd” and Twitter helps enable this.
  • Find recruiters on Twitter – view bios, read tweets Recently someone posted a tweet asking what job candidates should wear to interviews at Google. A little over an hour later, a recruiter tweeted back: "We care more about your mind than your clothes," the spokeswoman says. Show example of how you can research companies on Twitter (i.e. Deloitte, DaVita, SCE)

  • Companies must be authentic, include real voices of their employees, and engage Millennials in conversations they are already having online. “ Using social media for employment branding allows you to meet potential candidates on their territory and engage in richer, more meaningful dialogue with them – and because social media is a conversation, people are a lot more likely to find you. Why? Because they’re looking for you. They want to talk to you – so if you follow the rules of good conversation, your labor market will actually seek you out.” Source: Brand For Talent Zappos has good Twitter presence.
  • Twitter’s search tool is not very good.
  • Explain that search aggregators can pull different results (i.e. Indeed.com vs. Simply Show Peoplebrowsr Hash Tags - # - used to filter, find content JobShouts.com – Only certain companies pay to post – limited listings; looks helpful because it appears you can enter certain skills, but not JobAngeles – goal is to try to help one person at a time with their job need – opportunities too broad
