  • 1. Presented by Kevin More at the SIM Chapter Leader’s Summit April 30, 2010, Chicago, IL Society for Information Management www.simnet.org
  • 2. Past Presidents of the Boston Chapter of the Society for Information Management taken in 2007 at the Chapter’s 30 th anniversary event. This event was inspiration for creating a Boston SIM Wikipedia Article
  • 3.
  • 4. Wikipedia Issues
    • Wikipedia Administrator’s are very strict about allowing Chapters of professional organizations to have their own article
    • After dialogue we agreed to merge and incorporate the Boston Chapter’s article into the SIM International article
    • Unfortunately the SIM International article was almost empty and needed attention
  • 5. This was the page as of March 2010 – almost empty!
  • 6. This is the new page as of April 2010
  • 7. History of SIM researched and added
  • 8.
  • 9. A section was created for each of the 31 Chapters – this is Boston’s
  • 10. Wikipedia requires the use of in-line citations much like a research paper
  • 11. Wikipedia Lessons and Next Steps
    • Wikipedia is a great marketing tool but can not be written like a public relations or marketing piece
    • A well written Wikipedia Article brings credibility to an organization
    • Local Chapters of SIM have the opportunity to add their own content (history, unique programs, etc.)
  • 12. Questions? Check out our article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Society_for_Information_Management Kevin More Boston Chapter of SIM
