Global Warming and its Affects Cody Bunch Final Project APWH Kim McEachen June 3, 2009
From the beginning of time…
We have been polluting our atmosphere by burning and using harmful chemicals and causing imbalances on earth by deforestaion.
People Burning anything and everything to make heat…
Scientist burning chemicals not realizing at the time the effects…
Everyday people using items such as aerosol cans…
Emissions from automobiles…
Emissions from factories…
Smoke of all sorts filling the atmosphere with that all to familiar smog!
Deforestation!!! Save trees!
The list keeps going folks!
What's the BIG deal??? Increasing global temperatures will cause sea levels to rise and will change the amount of precipitation, probably including expansions of subtropical deserts. The continuing retreat of glaciers, permafrost and sea ice is expected, with the arctic region being particularly affected. Other likely effects include shrinkage of the Amazon rainforest and Boreal forests, increases in the intensity of extreme weather events, species extinctions and changes in agricultural yields. WOW! Look at the increase!
How did it start?
The process started way back when people started cutting down excessive amounts of forest to use the land for agriculture and homes. Then burning some of these trees and minerals such as coal to make heat and for these homes!
How can Jane and John help?
Everyday folks can help and over several years make a huge impact!
If everyone done a few simple things like use less paper or use recycled paper, save electricity, use “green” chemicals, drive less, don’t use aerosols, and recycle recycle recycle!
How do these things help?
RECYCLING: We can reuse resources besides having to make new…
USING RECYCLED PAPER: Recycling 1 short ton of paper saves 17 mature trees, 7 thousand US gallons of water, 3 cubic yards of landfill space, 2 barrels of oil (84 US gal or 320 l), and 4,100 kilowatt-hours of electricity — enough energy to power the average American home for five months. WOW!
USING “GREEN” CHEMICALS: Natural and environmentally friendly!
DRIVING LESS: Less driving = less fuel emissions
How does this connect to World History Again?
Global warming didn’t start last year or 10 years ago. It started 200, 300 years ago! When we started cutting down forest, testing new found chemicals, driving automobiles, and burning fossil fuels to produce electricity!
Ok connection made, back to the show …
Can we solve the problem?
Test have shown we cannot stop the problem… WHAT??? Yes that’s right I said we cannot stop it. We can slow down the process and help save the earth for a few hundred years but stopping it isn't going to happen. The process has went to far! Warming is expected to continue beyond 2100, because of the large heat capacity of the oceans and the long lifetime of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
If you care about our planet and future generations do the three R’s:
