  • Simply Box is a visual social bookmarking tool that allows you to collect and share web resources in a variety of layouts –and add additional comments to those sites. If you give it public access, it can also become a dynamic community that offers others a chance to comment on the sites you have collected. I would encourage you to make comments on my sites as you explore and share what you find most beneficial. What would you use in your work with other teachers, and ultimately in the teaching you do with students?

  • Eight was one of 10 stations that conducted specific local outreach across the state supported by grant funds from American Experience and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. I have filled in the full map for you – but you can see each of the locations across the US that has been involved with the project, each of the shoot locations used to create the films, and then tribal colleges and Native radio stations that participated in some way. There are lots of pieces that are interactive on the web and you will have time this evening to explore those.

  • PBS is not just a television resource. It is much more than a pledge drive or Lawrence Welk… not that there is anything wrong with that! Each broadcast created now includes segments that are streamable online in addition to the option of purchasing DVD copies. You as an educator have the ability to record on-air episodes and show in your classroom for teaching purposes up to 1 year. I will show you where to find more information about your copyrights as an educator later in our time together. Each of the episodes also includes detailed Teacher Guides and complimentary lesson plans and teaching resources on the National Endowment for the Humanities educator site – Edsitement. I will also encourage you to participate in PBS Teachers Connect to explore other resources and see how they can support what you find for your curriculum from We Shall Remain.
  • Each of the episodes has a common design and feel. The directors and producers blend primary source photographs with dramatic reenactments and interviews all connected by a single narrator. You can stream the episodes in full length online – they are in flash format so they take less bandwidth than other forms. You can also find transcripts on iTunes available for download. There are unique Teacher Guide documents and suggested websites for each episode as well. Behind the Scenes offers
