  • 2. Earth’s Rotation
    • Rotation – earth spins on its axis (counter-clockwise)
    • Axis – Imaginary line through the middle of earth
    • Earth spins or rotates on its axis one time every 24 hours (15° per hour)
      • Evidence – Day & Night
  • 3. Earth’s Tilted Axis
    • Tilt – to the side, or not straight
      • Earth’s axis is tilted 23.5°
    • Polaris – Earth’s axis always points to Polaris (The North Star)
  • 4. Equator & Hemispheres
    • Hemisphere – half of the earth
    • Earth is divided into 2 hemispheres (Northern and Southern) by the Equator
  • 5. Time Zones
    • The world is broken up into 24 time zones divided by the lines of Longitude
  • 6. Earth’s Revolution
    • Revolution – earth’s movement around the Sun
    • Earth orbits/revolves (goes around) the Sun one time every 365 days (1 year).
    • The shape of earth’s orbit is an ellipse
        • Evidence – Earth’s seasons & movement of the stars
