USA Inc.is a non-partisan report that looks at the U.S. federal government (and its financials) as if it were a business. Mary Meeker, partner at KPCB and former financial analyst at Morgan Stanley, created and compiled the report with the goal of informing the discussion about our financial situation and outlook. USA Inc. examines the country’s income statement and balance sheet, aiming to interpret the underlying data and facts, and illustrate patterns and trends in easy-to-understand ways. The report also analyzes the drivers of federal revenue and the history of expense growth, and discusses basic scenarios for how revenue and expense growth might change to help America move toward positive cash flow.

  • ofrancis1999 Olivier Francis at noub Thank you. Lot of work and I appreciate your effort and commitment for 21st Century America.

We lack non-partisan leadership in this country to solve this problem. Tea Party does not cut it -- as it is old wine in new bottle. Same thing as the contract with America.

I cannot understand how Defense budget cannot be reduced by 5% for the next 10 years, or medicare/medicaid by 5%, across the board cut salary cut for congress men, senators and the presdent by 5% and the congressional operational budget by 5%. Most Americans have taken these steps. Across the board 5% cut on all expenses. Except may be VA Hospital and veterans healthcare with stringent fraud prevention and protection.

Suspend the braindead 800 billion tax cuts for 2 years.

Leave education and infrastructure projects alone. Hold teachers accountable. Fire poor teachers and reward effective teachers.
Of course repeal certain elements of the healthcare. Make catastrophic insurance mandatory not regular healthcare.
Get rid of subsidies for oil, insurance, financial service and media companies.
Close shut revolving door treasury/SEC Wall Street role rotations.
Enact a strong campaign contribution disclosure law and enforce it. Repeal prior laws.
Claw back billions of dollars from crooks who have brought us here.
Increase retirement age (and social security age) to 72 although Social Security up until now has paid for itself. One needs to stem current trends.
if the war in Afghanistan is to be continued it must be supported by results -- eradicate taliban from the face of the earth or the head of Bin Laden on a plate, clawback looted money from Afghani politicians, US defence contractors.
Bring justice to war criminals. As a first step repeal the 2002 'Invasion of The Hague Act'
Invest faithfully in eliminating oil dependency (read public transport), alternative energy, agricultural productivity.
Get rid of both the parties and let us just have independents who can freely vote what they believe in item by item, instead of being stove-piped into party line positions and laws. Even supreme court judges have started indulging in partyline shananigans. We do not want multi-party we want no party. Get rid of 'GroupThink' and all other forces that contribute to mob mentality.

Let us visualize America has an outsized food exporter to the world at meaningful prices. This is a viable and inexhaustible future market.
Weeping on tv sets aint gonna help. Weeping on the floor of the house aint gonna help.
What we need is a backbone, to do this. Can be done. These are commonsense -- value driven - existential dilemma -- no need to debate these as long as it is not partisan like what is going on in republican state houses. Imagine, if Sully the pilot, had debated instead of gliding it onto Hudson. Time to act and no time for anything else. Not even to be scared. We can do it.
Crisis situation demands autocratic leadership. No need to trample on people's liberties. This is what I expected from 'change'. This is why I am disappointed. I can only hope this is representative of the nation, we all revere, love and benefit from, the United States of America.
