Plot synopsis
Queens Granddaughter gets murdered by two strangers in white theatre masks. However the plot thickens as each scene progresses the rest of the royal family are targeted one by one.
The cast of this plot is all female in comparison to the traditional Film Noir As the hard boiled detective being portrayed as a dominate character which has subverted the audiences expectations.
However the plot turns again as the audiences expectations are subverted one more time as the detective falls madly in love with the unknown killer.
The female detective does not know that she is falling in love with the killer as he is not the person doing the murders so he hides it well as he misleads her on what she believes to be the right path.
When the female detective starts to come around on what he is doing he gets her kidnapped and she does not know that the person she is in love with is putting her life in danger.
Opening Sequence
Queens Granddaughter being followed by two men in masks, you first see her two body guards drop to the floor and she runs away.
Then Getting chased by the people in masks you see her running away round a open planned area
Eventually she runs in to a dark dingy tunnel and as she looks behind her she trips and falls over and the men in masks catch up she gets trapped against the wall as they corner her with their guns.
Loud shots are heard then you see her body drop to the ground and the two men running away from the murder scene.
Newspaper Article swirls on screen with the headline:
Queens Granddaughter Murdered! This will then show a picture of her body on the floor with a sheet over her.
Inspiration for our Film noir
Sin City and the Descent
Due to the Descent having a all female cast to go against audience expectations.
Sin City for the transitions and the colour work used throughout the film. Being quite symbolic throughout the film and using the many generic conventions of the classic Film Noir.
Also using Synergy by combining the two elements together to create a bigger impact.
Big Combo was also inspiration as we will show cross cuts of the people in masks following and chasing her and then a shot of her running. Also lighting shone from underneath her to show unnatural facial expressions.
Target audience
Target audience:
Our group has decided to stick with 15 rating as we wanted to keep with classic Film noir but set in modern times. We know that our film noir is going to be a 15 rating due to the certain degree of violence in the crucial scenes in our opening sequence. The specific audience that we are aiming is stereotypically males as statistics show that more males watch violent, action packed movies. Due to the rating of our particular film this would appeal to a more mature audience.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NaJCwbkkPSY
Trailer
In this sequence it gave us inspiration on the fade in colour technique and also being based in a city. As a group we have all decided to base our sequence in London, due to the high crime rate and corruption within the city. The hardest part of this will be continuity between the scenes but this shouldn’t be much of a problem as we are mainly taking shots of the tall buildings in the city.
Creative techniques
Canted angles to give the audience the affect of things not being right in this city which is heavily based on crime and corruption within society.
Close ups to show the woman’s facial expression to show that these are nasty people to get involved with so showing emotion is key to our opening sequence.
Another technique that we will be using is the lighting in the sequence to have her and the bad guys running constantly in and out of light and dark to show the contrast between them etc. When the woman is trapped by the bad guys we will have there faces obscured in the darkness while the woman is shown in the light which is going to shine up above towards her in a low angle to show unnatural facial expressions.
Cross cutting some of the scenes so we see the woman running away from bad guys in masks and then we see the bad guys chasing after her to slowly build up that tension in the opening sequence
Birds eye view shot to get a clearer perspective of how far behind the bad guys are from the woman.
