File and application services

  1. 1. FILE AND APPLICATION SERVICES
  2. 2. File services are allocated into the computers system to complete tasks such as reading,, deleting, updating and browsing through the local data files or the remote desktop files. As well as transmitting files through the internet allowing others to access them. File server computers use various ways to transfer files however the interface for the user is either seen as uploading or downloading. FILE SERVICES
  3. 3. THE TWO TYPES OF FILE TRANSFERRING ARE AS FOLLOWING: Push-based file transfers which lets the sender creates a file transfer request Pull-based file transfers which lets the receiver create a file transfer request
  4. 4. APPLICATION SERVICES Application services covers all of the different applications from printing to email. Application software • In various different setting the amount of servers used to complete functions depends on the size of the company/school etc. and most servers each run a separate job. Although in the school system it will run several programmes off of one server.
  5. 5. TYPES OF SERVER - DATABASE SERVER The database server baciscally manages all of the data within the school from the students information to the teachers lessons.
  6. 6. TYPES OF SERVER - PROXY SERVER The proxy server controls the internet access across the school building and filters the sites used and logs and records access to different sites. In the school this is good for Security as they will be able to record what web pages people use.
  7. 7. TYPES OF SERVER – SHARED RESOURCES Print server • The printer servers manage all of the computers within the network which is more cost efficient and easier for the school system allowing class rooms to have specific printers for the work to be sent to. Storage server • The storage server is the File Server and allows all of the users to store files onto their computers and access it accordingly.
  8. 8. VOICE OVER IP (VOIP) • This method allows the computers to take analogue audio signals, and turn them into digital sound which can be used over the internet. • A huge example of this is Skype which allows calls over the internet and uses network protocol to create this.
  9. 9. MOBILE WORKING Using different types of technology such as laptops and mobile phones it is becoming increasingly popular for users to access their files and communicate from anywhere
