A concise report is prepared for the same as some of the information required was considered confidential and could not be disclosed. Information which could be disclosed is presented below under several heads as required for field assignment for 108 Computers in Management for MBA Part-Time course.<br />Hardware Platform(s):<br />DMRC Ltd has got dedicated IT and networking rooms at its Operation Control Center (OCC) at Shastri Park and at its corporate office at Metro Bhawan, Barakhamba Road, New Delhi. At these locations, dedicated servers for Enterprise Resource Planning systems and networking are running. Stores are also provided for upkeep of documents and spares.<br />Hardware platform is DMRC Ltd consists of items mentioned below: -<br />Servers of IBM, HP, Sun <br />(Details are confidential and could not be provided.)<br />Cisco Routers and Switches<br />40 Switches (Cisco 2950 & Cisco 2960)<br />4 Routers (Cisco)<br />Plotters and networked printers<br />Different suppliers at different locations.<br />Personal Computers<br />250 PCs (IBM ThinkCentre)<br />250 UPS (ACE)<br />Alongwith peripheral devices.<br />Man-power deployed:<br />As Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited is supposed to be lean and effective organization, Information Technology department follows the vision of the organization and consists of few DMRC officers and staff. Most of the regular maintenance work is outsourced and annual maintenance contracts are awarded to external agencies. Vendors are identified on lowest quotation basis and procurement of computers and spares items are made.<br />DMRC Information Technology department consists of: -<br />1Joint General Manager/IT<br />2Manager/IT<br />3 Senior System Analysts<br />1Junior Engineer/IT<br />External agencies are awarded annual maintenance contracts who deploy their staff as per the requirements. Approximate 7-8 persons are deployed in normal times at several places.<br />Networking:<br />Network comprises of leased line and networking inside DMRC Ltd is done through optical fiber network and CISCO routers and switches are used. LAN is provided with RJ45 connectors for personal computers and SAP software is installed for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) implementation. In corporate office and on site, several devices (e.g. Printers, workstations etc) are used on sharing basis. <br />Different departments are using DMRC internal website and networking to communicate with site offices staff and have customized SAP software for their particular uses.<br />Budgets for IT:<br />Exact figure for budgets could not be provided since it is considered confidential. But contacts are awarded for SAP implementation to Siemens Information System Limited (SISL) and vendors are selected for local procurement on lowest quotation basis for personal computers and spares. Work orders are also given to external agencies for small works.<br />Software Platform(s):<br />
Servers are running on Different Operation Systems e.g., Solaris, Linux, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008.
Personal computers are normally using Windows XP Professional operating system and Microsoft Office Professional (Different versions).
On Design systems, AUTOCAD software is used for creation, edition and modification of drawings.
Anti-virus softwares (Trend micro, Avast Professional etc) are installed on personal computers.
SAP software (Enterprise Resource Planning) is installed and customized at different places as per requirement and suitable user rights are provided for the same.
Documentation:<br />Documentation is provided for different phases of project implementation. Waterfall model is used to describe different phases of the project, e.g. planning, design, application engineering, manufacture and delivery, testing and commissioning, transfer of technology and training. <br />User manuals, help files and customization manuals are provided for SAP implementation as well as different hardware and software platforms used in DMRC Ltd.<br />Important Databases:<br />SAP is used extensively in DMRC Ltd and is the single most important database used in the company.<br />Internet/ Intranet applications:<br />DMRC Ltd is running its own external website<br />http://www.delhimetrorail.com<br />where information is provided for corporate and commuters, e.g., project updates, route maps, photo galleries, right to information act and details and information regarding recruitment/selection, tenders/contracts etc is provided. <br />DMRC Ltd website has been a very useful tool for getting information about the company. It is also helpful to its employees since the time of joining the organization.<br />DMRC Ltd is also running its internal website:<br />http://www.dmrc.org<br />which can be accessed internally as well as through internet (limited use) by its employees. It provides for corporate e-mail, salary and allowance details, important events, announcement, circulars, and policies. It also caters to grievance of staff, booking of meeting rooms, information about the corporate library and works as a repository for corporate documents. Many of the documents are digitalized and made online on this site.<br />This report endeavours to provide bird’s eye view of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited Information Technologies functions and operations without losing focus and going in much details.
