  • 1. INTRODUCTIONOur class has started the project on the life cycle of a chicken.We are going to hatch our very own chicks.
  • 2. HOW IT BEGINSThe hen lays one egg every day.
  • 3. THE EGGThe egg will turn into a chick after 21 days if…..
  • 4. KEEPING WARMThe eggs are kept warm.Usually the hen sits on the eggs to keep them warm.
  • 5. INCUBATORHowever, we can not use a hen so we will use an incubator.
  • 6. WHAT THIS MEANSAn incubator keeps things at the correct temperature. Can you think ofanywhere anIncubator could be used? Think of little babies.Our incubator will keep the eggs at the correct temperature for the chicksto grow.
  • 7. We have to turnthe incubator 3times a day tomake sure thetemperature isevenThe incubatorTHE INCUBATOR
  • 8. AFTER 21 DAYS…..If everything goes correctly the chick will hatch after 21 days.
  • 9. THE SHELLThe eggs hard shell protects the baby as it grows .When the chick is ready to hatch it will peck at the shell with its beak untilthe egg cracks.
  • 10. HATCHING TIMESlowly the chick will come out from the egg. This can take up to a day!The chick is wet it hatches from the egg
  • 11. The chicks feathers will dry quickly and soon will become nice and fluffy!
  • 12. STAYING WARMThe chicks must then be kept warm for the next few weeks.We will use an infra-red lamp to keep them warm.
  • 13. We will then feed them well and look for a good home to go to!
