  • 1. LIFE CYCLE OF A CHICKENJOHN JOE & STEVE
  • 2. INTRODUCTION• Our class has started the project on the life cyclechicken.• We are going to hatch our own chicks!
  • 3. HOW IT BEGINS• The hen lays one egg every day
  • 4. THE EGG• The egg will turn into a chick after 21 daysif……
  • 5. KEEPING WARM• They are kept warm.• Usually the hen sits on the eggs to keepthem warm.
  • 6. INCUBATOR• However ,we cannot use a hen so we willuse an incubator.
  • 7. WHAT THIS MEANS An incubator keeps things at the correcttemperature .Can you think of anywhere anincubator could be used ?Think of littlebabies! Our incubator will keep the eggs at thecorrect temperature for the chicks to grow.
  • 8. THE INCUBATOR We have to turn the incubator three times aday to make sure the temperature is even.
  • 9. AFTER 21 DAYS If everything goes correctly the chick willhatch from the egg after 21 days.
  • 10. THE SHELL The eggs hard shell protects the baby as itgrows. When the chick is ready to hatch it will peckat the shell with it’s beak until the egg cracks.
  • 11. HATCHING TIME• Slowly the chick will come out from theegg.This can take up to a day.• The chick is wet when it hatches from it’segg.
  • 12.  The chicks feathers will dry quickly and soonwill become nice and fluffy!
  • 13. STAYING WARM• The chicks must then be kept very warm forthe next few weeks.• We will use an infra-red lamp to keep themwarm.
  • 14. • We will then feed them well and look for agood home to go to!
