  • Bata Shoe Company's history in India is incomplete without a detailed mention of its Purchasing department in Kodimatha, Kottayam. I'm personally interested in this part of Bata's history because my father, Mr. P. J. Alexander (Bata Baby) was one of the pioneers in the purchasing department, which had a branch office in Kochi as well. My father was invited to join Bata in 1935/36 and he retired as the branch manager in Kottayam in 1973. The Bata office in Kottayam was visited by Thomas Bata Jr and his wife in 1965. I, as a 10-year old, garlanded Mr. Bata and his wife with two other daughters of my dad's colleagues and received them to Kottayam. I'm looking for the pictures of this historical visit to Kottayam because I lost my copies in an accident. Saramma Alexander, Chicago, IL
