    Most of the chief cities in West Virginia are located in the river valleys.
    Wheeling hosts the Festival of Lights and Jamboree USA.
    Charleston is an industrial city offering many manufacturing jobs.
  • Why Should You Visit West Virginia?Let Me Tell You!
    West Virginia is a great place to play! If you like outdoor activities like fishing, hunting, hiking and whitewater rafting, head for West Virginia. Look out for black bears, though. They are the state animal and are common in the mountains.
  • Land and Climate
    Mostly sunny, summer days. Winters are mild and not very snowy. Flash flooding is the states most feared weather occurrence.
    In the fall, tourists come to see the beautiful fall colors.
  • Resources and Industry
    West Virginia has rich crop land for farming. The woodlands and rivers provide great fishing and hunting. Plentiful supplies of silica sand provide resources for the glass industry. The state produces enough electricity to export power to other states.
  • Historical People, Events and Landmarks
    Famous people from West Virginia include: Civil War general “Stonewall” Jackson, African-American Leader, Booker T. Washington and Inventor James Rumsey.
    On June 20, 1863 West Virginia becomes the 35th state in the Union.
    State Capitol Complex, including the Govenor’s mansion, the Booker T. Washington Memorial and the state museum.
