What Is A Goal? <ul>A goal is an aim, a purpose, a sense of direction that one has moved all of their energies, desires, and efforts towards the accomplishment or achievement of a particular thing. </ul>
Goal Setting is Essential <ul>What happens when you do not set goals for your life? Setting goals is essential for your life. A person who has no goals has the following characteristics: <li>They have no excitement about life in general-- most people don't stop to think about their life.
They are going to drift in life-- they never accomplish or achieve any thing of real significance in life.
They accept mediocrity in their life-- they passively accept what happens to them. </li></ul>
Failing to Set Goals <ul>Setting goals will not be the same for each person. Why do people fail to set goals? <li>They don't know how.
Types of Goals – How do we go about setting goals? <ul>There are several types to goals: immediate, short- range, and long range. There are several areas to set goals in: spiritual, personal, family, business, career, social, financial, etc. How do we go about setting goals? <li>Ask God to guide you – don't underestimate what God wants to do for you.
Determine exactly what you want – people don't reach goals because they are too fuzzy.
You must write it out – it is not enough to have it in your mind. </li></ul>
<ul>For example, write something like, “My goal is...” <li>Ask this question: “Does this goal fit God's purpose and plan for my life?”
Set a goal that's high but attainable, we grow by being stretched and challenged.
Set a date by it – if you don't put a date by it, you will not get there. If you put a date by it you are more committed to it.
You have to make a commitment to it – if you say that you think you want to do it, then it is not a goal but a wish. </li></ul>
PROGRESS IS MADE ONE STEP AT A TIME! <ul>Do you have unaccomplished goals? Have you said in the past that you were going to do a certain thing, only to find that it has been more than a year now? Have you ever gotten distracted by friends, family, vacations, work, discouragements, depression, and just plain old procrastination. If so, it's time to get it right!!! In order to accomplish our goals, we must set aside time to work on our goals. This can be exciting. Using myself for example, I make the morning time my time to give to the Lord towards my goals. And because I need to get up at </ul>
<ul>At 7:00 am., I make sure that I am in bed by 11:00 pm. The night before. I see goal – setting as a tool to weed out the nonsense in my life. I am so grateful to God for this. Let's remember the 2 key elements to being successful goal achievers: <li>SPIRITUAL WELLNESS – put God first in your goal-setting
PHYSICAL & EMOTIONAL WELLNESS- vitality is key in doing well, one can not be productive if his health prohibits him from doing so.
BE NOT ONLY, GOAL SETTERS – BE GOAL ACHIEVERS! </li></ul>
<ul><li>They are very critical – they don't like themselves so they criticize others trying to achieve success in life.
They get in a rut – they don't want to be bothered or challenged about their life.
They will waste resources, time, energy, gifts, tools – wasting their life which is a gift from God. </li></ul>
<ul>A person who does have goals will have the following characteristics: <li>They have a sense of direction – they are going somewhere.
They have an excitement about life – their life is truly exciting.
They have energy – this person can work 14 hours a day joyfully.
They have a creative element – God begins to intermingle His spirit with their mind.
They are going to be healthier in the long run – They will want to be in good health to fulfill their goals. </li></ul>
