Child abuse is any maltreatment of a
child.

   According to the article “Law

Abuse,” “Child abuse is a community
             problem.”

                 SINCE 2007
According to the article “New Federal Report
Shows drop in Child Abuse Rates” it has gone
down

"The results show too many children still suffer from abuse
  and neglect, and we have not yet experienced the full
    impact from the economic situation," says Carmen
 Nazario, HHS assistant secretary for children and families.
TYPES OF CHILD ABUSE
•Physical injury- Any un-accidental injury of a child
•Mental injury- Any mental issue of a child
•Exploitation- To take advantage of a child for someones
own personal use

•Sexual abuse- When an adult has sexual intercourse with a
child; uses the child for sexual gratification
TYPES
• Abandonment - When a child is abandoned
• Congenital drug abuse - When a mother is taking drugs while
she is pregnant; the baby gets addicted to the drugs while inside
the mother

• Witnessing family violence - When a child is a witness or
victim of family violence

•Neglect- To fail to take care of a child

MOST COMMON FORM OF
          CHILD ABUSE
•According to the article “New Federal Report Shows Drop in Child Abuse
Rates” in 2008 neglect was highest with 71%

•Physical Abuse was second with 16%
•Sexual abuse was 9%
•About 7% was psychological maltreatment
•In 1994 the highest child abuse was still neglect
MOST LIKELY TO BE ABUSED
According to the article “At Issue: Child Abuse” the most likely
to be abused are:
•Children under three years of age
•Followed by four to seven years of age

•The child might have a bond with the abuser
•The child doesn’t want the abuser to be punished
•They could possibly say something but not the whole
story

parents at work or can not be home for some reason
