  • 2. Introduction Teen Suicide is 4 times more common then it was 15 years ago 1 out of 4 high school students will seriously consider suicide
  • 3. Why is the teen suicide rate going up? Parents don’t think anything is wrong so they don’t help Parents think it is just their kids over-reacting to drama when they are depressed so they don’t help One young person commits suicide every two hours
  • 4. What are signs of suicide risk? Heavy drinking Eating disorders Obsession with death Suicide threats Big drop in grades Feel hopeless Feel worthless Substance abuse Strange behavior Sad a lot No energy Anxiety Thoughts of suicide
  • 5. What is the reason most kids commit suicide? Low self esteem School bullies Parents getting divorced Pregnancy Rape Loss of loved one
  • 6. What kids are most likely to commit suicide Males are 4 times more likely to succeed at suicide Females are 3 times more likely to attempt it Many African-Americans commit suicide Gay and lesbians are 3 times more likely to commit suicide then others
  • 7. Why don’t parents help their kids when they see signs of suicide? Parents don’t want to believe their kid needs help When their kid gets bullied they don’t think it’s a big deal They think their kid is over dramatic Lots teens think it not cool to tell their parents what they are feeling
  • 8. Counseling Psychologist Talk to people about their problems helps them get through tough times Starting salary- $30,000 Working about 3 years- $32,000-$39,000 Working about 10 years- $65,000- $70,000 Related Careers- School Psychologist, and Clinical Psychologist

  • 11. Community Service Therapeutic Riding from 2010- 2014 I am comfortable with horses and kids with disabilities. So I decided to help out there because if I was disabled I would still want to be with horses and learn how to ride.
