  • 1. Should Homework Be Abolished? Austin Eller Block A December 1, 2010
  • 2. Introduction Some parents and PTAs want to ban homework. According to a 1999 study by King’s College, London found that 9 year olds who did math homework twice a week did no better than those who did the same task occasionally.
  • 3. Would Only Certain Grades Have No Homework? Christina Harris(National PTA) thinks that kindergartners shouldn’t have to do homework. The National PTA & NEA say that students should have 10 minutes of homework a night per week.
  • 4. What’s Homework’s Purpose? Some parents think that homework is a complete waste of childhood. Some parents even think that homework is a disadvantage.
  • 5. Is Homework Unfair? Julie Henry(NEA) thinks that school days should be lengthened. Other parents and PTAs also think that school days should be lengthened.
  • 6. Is Homework Too Overwhelming to Children? Some parents think that homework is mindless busy work. According to Etta Kravolec (co- author of The End of Homework), found that high school blamed falling behind in homework as a major de-motivator. Dr.Harris Cooper of University of Missouri states that overloading children in early years can ruin motivation.
  • 7. Anti-Homework Lobby The AHL(Anti-Homework Lobby) thinks that teachers should limit learning. Onerous out of school assignments disrupt families according to the AHL.
  • 8. Teacher Instruct students in secondary public or private schools in one or more subjects at the secondary level. -$41,800 a year -890 new job openings with a 9% change in the year 2016 -46.5% has a masters degree & 45.3& has a bachelors degree. Some related careers are teacher assistants, health educator, instructional navigator, & a graduate teaching assistant.
  • 9. High School Career Academies I will be going to either River Hill or Perry Hall High School. I researched energy power and transportation academy. You need to take foundation of technology and engineering design as a prerequisite.
  • 10. Baltimore City Community College Its located in Baltimore City. It costs $88 per credit hour. The program requirements are to check the requirements of the institution to which they intend to to transfer.
  • 11. Community Service Cleaned up trash in several park. The reason I cleaned up the trash was so people wouldn’t have to see it when they walk by.
  • 12. Prior Job Experience Bagged Groceries at Giant Worked at Pizza Hut One of my accomplishments in the past was winning an art contest in the 7th grade.
