  2. 2. Introduction <ul><li>In 1992, about 700 cities reported the arrival of gang members from elsewhere. The overall number of migrants appears to be fairly low, however. (SIRS) </li></ul><ul><li>A gang is a group or association of criminals . </li></ul>
  3. 3. At what ages do people j oin gangs? <ul><li>The age of the average gang member recruit is 14. </li></ul><ul><li>But children in elementary schools join gangs every day. </li></ul>1995 Street Gang

How have gang activities changed recently? <ul><li>In the past two years gang shootings, assaults, and burglaries have returned in some cities. </li></ul><ul><li>In 2006 many school officials started reporting that students were coming to school and leaving once they had peddled their drugs. </li></ul>
  5. 5. How do gangs finance themselves? <ul><li>More popular methods of gang financing include drug and weapon trafficking </li></ul><ul><li>While some other ways are human trafficking, gambling, prostitution, and sales of forged documents </li></ul>Marijuana grown on Public Land in Kentucky

Guatemalan gang law is still under consideration. </li></ul><ul><li>El Salvador and Honduras do have anti-gang laws and their law enforcement puts emphasis on gang prevention. </li></ul>

What kinds of people join gangs? <ul><li>Smaller cities, with more recent gang activity, are more likely to report juvenile-aged gang members. </li></ul><ul><li>Figures provided by law enforcement are 49 percent Hispanic/Latino gang members, 35 percent African-American/black gang members, 9 percent white gang members, and 7 percent other race/ethnicity of gang members . </li></ul>

Police Officer <ul><li>Police officers enforce laws, collect evidence, patrol areas for crime or even testify in court. </li></ul><ul><li>A police officers average yearly salary is $52,810, and most get paid overtime. </li></ul><ul><li>Employment for police officers is expected to raise along with the average for all careers through 2018. </li></ul>Correctional officers Customs and immigration inspectors Firefighting occupations Private detectives and investigators Security guards Related Careers

  10. 10. George Washington University <ul><li>It is located in Washington D.C. and is the largest college in the capitol. The college is 19,980 for housing, meals, transportation, and personal expenses. </li></ul><ul><li>Three academic letters of recommendation are required for admission. </li></ul>
  11. 11. Community Service <ul><li>For my community service I donated can and money to the Maryland Food Bank. </li></ul><ul><li>I did it so I give back to my community and help others in need. </li></ul>
