ABOUT THE WORKSHOP LEADER
Dr. Shih-Lai Lu is former Chief Scientist with 3M, Professor of
Chemical Engineering, National Tsing Hua University, Professor of
Bio-Industry Communication/Development, National Taiwan
University.
From the 16-year laboratory experience in four different business
units learned from 3M in St. Paul laboratories, several major new
products were developed for five business units across the 3M
Taiwan organization during the assignment in the past 12 years.

and security products. He Spent 12 years in Asia Pacific region worked with local marketers and
coached engineers to do product modifications to solve local customer needs.
One of his contributions to 3M is implementing the 15% rule in the new material research and
process improvement. Furthermore, the BEF product he developed was applied in a lot of
electronic products.
