SnowboardingSnowboarding can be achallenging sport. Skierswho have switched tosnowboarding often say thatthey find it even moredifficult than skiing. I’m hereto offer some tips to thosewho like to snowboard. Ireally do enjoy the sport so Iwant to help those whoneed help. Here are my topfive tips when it comes tosnowboarding!
Tip #1: When you are first learning to snowboard, always keep your hands in a fist.I’m going to be honest andfrank to those of you who havenever snowboarded. You willfall! Falling is just a part oflearning the sport.A brokenwrist is the most commoninjury for first timesnowboarders. There’s aproper way to fall insnowboarding for a beginner. When you fall backward punchthe snow and sit on your butt.By following this technique, youll reduce the risk of injuryto your wrist.
Tip # 2: To move up the slope, inch your way up whileboth feet are attached to the board. For the beginner on the bunny hill, moving up the slope cancomplicated. Youll have to assumea frog like position. Begin inchworming by moving your armsforward. Then, extend your legs. The trickiest part of moving up theslope is that you need to pull yourlegs towards you similar to a frog’smotion when it hops without movingyour arms. It’s tricky but constantpractice will help you. Mastery ofthis skill will allow you to move upthe slope with your snowboard stillattached to your feet.
Tip # 3: When you are steering, you need to pivot the board around apoint midway between the bindings.Steering can be tricky.Move your feetinterdependently. Youshould twist your front footin the direction of the turnwhile pushing the rear footaway from the turn.Keep inmind though that if you areon a steeper slope, themidway point may befurther forward orbackward as you steer.
Tip # 4:To switch edges, roll on your side while yourfeet are attached to the board.Often snowboarders findthemselves on the wrongedge. Generally, you wouldhave to unfasten thesnowboard bindings, turnaround, and attach thebindings to your feet. Thistip may save you the troubleof doing this though.Byfollowing this tip, you willsave yourself some timeand get more time on theslope!
Tip # 5: In doing a Rock-n-Roll Grind, you need to keepthe board parallel to the rail while grinding. My favorite trickinvolves grinding.Makesure you practice yourollies if you’re doingthis trick. Approachand timing areessential!
