  • HELLO CHILDREN! AS YOU MIGHT KNOW, THERE ARE A LOT OF OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY ISSUES IN THE DIGITAL ARTS WORK PLACE TODAY WE’LL BE TALKING ABOUT ELECTRICAL SAFETY IN THE STAFF KITCHEN
  • IN THE KITCHEN, THE ONLY THINGS THAT USE ELECTRICITY ARE APPLIANCES LET’S TAKE A CLOSER LOOK INSIDE
  • HERE ARE THE MAIN ISSUES OF ELECTRICAL SAFETY CURRENT CONDITION OF APPLIANCES KNIFE IN THE TOASTER SPILLING LIQUIDS OVERLOADING POWER CIRCUIT TRAILING EXTENSION LEADS
    • Not properly plugged in
    • Wire in the cord is exposed
    • Chance of tripping over
    • Cause electric shock
    Spilled water + Appliance running = Electric shock Touching an appliance with an object that’s a conductor such as a fork can cause an electric shock
    • Contact with faulty/broken appliance
    • Contact with a faulty/broken cord or power plug
    • Cause Electric shock
    NOW THESE ARE THE HAZARDS INVOLVED
    • Too many appliances into same socket.
    • Cause Overheating
    • Could start a fire
  • Avoid the use of adaptors and connection of unauthorized appliances brought from home Use extension leads for temporary connection only Kitchen appliances should be tested and inspected regularly. Faulty appliances should be immediately removed for repairs Promote awareness to safe procedures for cleaning/clearing electrical kitchen appliances If additional appliances to be used regularly, install a larger power socket (e.g.. 4 - sockets). HERE ARE SOME SOLUTIONS THAT CAN BE USED TO ENSURE A SAFE KITCHEN
  • NO MATTER WHICH PROBLEM OCCURS IT’S NOT GOING TO BE A PRETTY SIGHT AFTERWARDS IF SOMEONE GETS ELECTROCUTED CALL FOR HELP IMMEDIATELY IF THERE’S A SPILL ADVISE THEM TO DISCONNECT THE EQUIPMENT FROM THE POWER SUPPLY BEFORE MOPPING UP IF YOU DO USE EXTENSION CORDS OFTEN MAKE SURE IT’S SECURED SOME HOW LIKE TAPING IT DOWN TO THE FLOOR TURN THE APPLIANCE POWER OFF WHEN IT’S NOT IN USE BY ANYONE
  • SO KIDS REMEMBER … BEING COOL MEANS KNOWING THE RULES DUDE WHAT THE F*&K IS HE GOING ON ABOUT NOW?
