  • 14. HAY (there is/there are)
    This teeny tiny short word can be overlooked when you are learning it, but it is very important, so make sure you can use it on demand, as well as recognize how it sounds (like the “aye” in “Aye aye, captain!”)
    Use indefinite articles (un, una, unos, unas).
    Hay uncuaderno en la mochila.
    There is a notebook in the backpack.
    Hay unoscuadernos en la mochila.
    There are some notebooks in the backpack.
