The Do’s And Do Not’s Of Wikipedia - Presentation Transcript

    1. Within Journalism and Public Relations By Kelly Newbery, Amanda Scott, Ainsley Dobson, Charlotte Patterson, Ella Tanner
      • In order to remain relevant to their audiences, both journalism and public relations need to embrace new media such as Wikipedia . However, professionals do well to recognise the following guidelines in order to use Wikipedia as a legitimate source.
      • Use Wikipedia as a road-map to further credible sources to substantiate information when producing news stories.
      • Amend mistakes discovered on Wikipedia to ensure the reliability and credibility of online content.
      • Use the bibliographic references on Wikipedia entries to expand research.
      • Use Wikipedia as a way to cross-check information in media releases.
      • Use Wikipedia as a primary source of information when producing news stories.
      • Use Wikipedia to promote your employer news organisation.
      • Edit Wikipedia in a biased way.
      • Intentionally vandalise the Wikipedia pages of competing news organisations.
      • DO: use Wikipedia to cross check background information when creating media releases.
      • DO NOT: use Wikipedia to promote a brand or business, or provide subjective information about a brand or business.
