    • Hot sandwiches and pizza are among the most popular items in foodservice today
    • Are ideal for fast-paced lifestyles
    • Represents comfort food
      • Grilled cheese
  • 3. Sandwiches
    • Most hot sandwiches contain only one or two hot ingredients, the rest are cool or cold
    • Popular hot sandwiches include:
      • Hamburgers
      • Italian beef
      • Corned beef
  • 4. Sandwiches
    • Common hot sandwich ingredients are:
      • Chicken breasts
      • Lunch meats
      • Ham
      • Fish
      • Sliced beef
      • Caramelized onions
      • Grilled peppers
      • Sauteed mushrooms

    • To serve these sandwiches correctly the hot ingredients must be served hot and the cold ingredients need to be served cold

      • Long handled, large spatula that is used to slide the pizza in and out of the oven

    • Calzone- a sheet of pizza style dough filled with various ingredients, folded in half, baked
    • Empanada- Central America, stuffed pastry similar to a calzone, not always made of a yeast dough
    • Stromboli- large rolled or stuffed bread baked and sliced to order, mozzarella, lunchmeats and spinach
