  2. 2. Graham Burton: Target audience Theory Graham Burton theory was that audiences could be split up into 2 groups socially grouped and media grouped. Socially grouped which contains: Age, Gender and Ethnicity. Media grouped which contains: Music they listen to, books & newspapers they read, TV channels they watch, Film genres they like etc. Fiske adds a further Five factors when identifying target audience. Five factors: -Education -Religion -Political allegiance -Region -Urban Vs Rural Fiske: Target audience Theory

Dangerous Game: Social Grouping Dangerous Game: Media Grouping <ul><li>The social grouping for our film is: </li></ul><ul><li>Age – 15-21 </li></ul><ul><li>Gender – Male </li></ul><ul><li>Ethnicity - British </li></ul><ul><li>The Media grouping for our film is: </li></ul><ul><li>Film genre - Crime/thriller/Gangster </li></ul><ul><li>Newspapers - Various, due to our film is both appealing to both higher and lower class and knowledge </li></ul><ul><li>Music – Indie E.g. Artic Monkeys </li></ul>
  4. 4. Audience gratification <ul><li>Before we made our film we carefully considered the reasons audiences watched gangster films. </li></ul><ul><li>We looked at two theorists in particular. </li></ul>
  5. 5. <ul><li>Uses and gratification theory </li></ul><ul><li>People read magazines, watch films or television because of there active choices to be INFORMED , ENTERTAINED, for SOCIAL INTERACTION or ESCAPE. </li></ul><ul><li>When designing our British gangster film trailer our main uses and gratification was the ENTERTAINMENT factor for our specific target audience. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Richard dyer: utopian solutions <ul><li>People have inadequacies which they use the media to provide solutions. His examples include ISOLATION and COMMUNITY , or CONFUSION and CLARITY. </li></ul>
