How Can this Book Support the Curriculum?
This series of books appeals to many young girls in K-3rd grades. It talks about princesses and favorite colors. Each of the books has a piece where it teaches the children from right and wrong. It teaches them determination. The princesses each suffer set backs but learn how to overcome them to achieve their goals. These are all very good lessons to include in daily lesson plans. Not to mention the shear motivation of reading these lovely books!
How Does this Book Meet the Emotional or Social Needs of the Student?
This series of books all have a similar theme. There is something or someone in their way of achieving their goals. All students can relate to this need and take with them some useful ideas to help them when they are working towards their own goals.
Why was this theme selected?
This series of books were chosen because I recently read most of them to my daughter. My daughter needed to have some motivation to begin reading Chapter Books and this was a recommendation from her teacher. Lia loved that the books talked about princesses, she loved the colored pages of the book. She also loved the few illustrations each book has. Lia was able to read the rest of the books to me (we have one more to go). She practiced her reading and learned some valuable lessons along the way.
The series of books can be easily introduced during library class, as a suggested book for Family Reading Night and even used in an after-school reading program to promote reading. The possibilities are endless!
