email clients and webmail (presentation)

 1. 1. Web-based email Presentation by Sikai He
 2. 2. Web-based email or webmail is a term referring to an e-mail service intended to be primarily accessed via a web browser, as opposed to through an email client, such as Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla's Thunderbird, or Apple's Mail. One of the earliest Webmail services was Hotmail. Other very popular webmail providers include, Yahoo! Mail, Gmail and AOL.[1] See also Comparison of webmail providers.
 3. 3. Advantages of email Using email is like composing or reading a paper message, with several distinct differences:

It's faster.

It's more conversational .

It's easier to reference.

 4. 4.

It's faster. Email is received almost immediately

after it is sent, usually within minutes.

 5. 5.

It's more conversational. Because of its immediacy, a

whole series of e-mail messages may be exchanged within

a very short time. As a result, email messages tend to be

less formal and they are also usually shorter and more to the point.

 6. 6. It's easier to reference. The text of a previous email message can easily be included as part of a reply to that message. Thus, eemail correspondents are able to keep the replies in context for each message. Including this context is not only polite, but also makes an email message more accurate and understandable.
 7. 7. Disadvantages of email As we have seen, one of the biggest disadvantages of email is the capability for misunderstanding. Email has some other disadvantages as well. It can be used to talk to more than one person at a time, but the means for doing , so can be a bit cumbersome. At its core, email is a one - to - one communication medium.
 8. 8. E-mail client
 9. 9. An e-mail client, aka Mail User Agent (MUA), aka email reader is a frontend computer program used to manage email. Sometimes, the term e-mail client is also used to refer to any agent acting as a client toward an e-mail server, independently of it being a real MUA, a relaying server, or a human typing directly on a telnet terminal. In addition, a web application providing the relevant functionality Is sometimes considered an email client.
 10. 10. Advantages of email clients Ability to access your e-mail anytime, anywhere, from any computer, with just an internet connection and a working browser. User can utilize many computers without compromising ability to see all messages. Nothing to take up valuable disk space. Built in virus protection, district and personal calendar and address book.
 11. 11. Disadvantages of email clients With a Web based e-mail client, you must access your messages via the Internet. If your connection is inoperable, you will not be able to read your messages. Cannot use e-mail clients such as Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express.
