  • 2. Get the calories you need  for your activity level!
      • A calorie is a unit to measure the energy produced by food in the body.
      • Use the food groups to make choices
  • 3. Aim for a healthy weight  that is just right for you!
      • It decreases your risk of high blood pressure and types of diseases or cancers.
  • 4. Be physically active each day!
      • It uses energy to maintain a healthy weight.
      • It helps to strengthen bones and muscles!
  • 5. Get the nutrients you need  from healthy foods
      • Eat more foods from the food pyramid.
      • They help give your body the vitamins, minerals, and fiber it needs.
  • 6. Limit Fats!
      • Eat foods low in saturated fat.
      • Limit goodies such as donuts, cookies, and cake.
  • 7. Limit sugars you eat!
      • When combined with plaque, it causes tooth decay.
      • Too much can cause weight gain or diabetes
  • 8. Choose and prepare foods  with less salt!
      • Your body needs less than a teaspoon a day.
      • Packaged foods contain added salt.
      • Choose more natural foods to eat.
  • 9. Keep foods safe to eat!
      • Germs can get into food and make you ill.
      • Always wash hands.
      • Eat meat that has been cooked thoroughly.
  • 10. Alcohol and drugs  hurt your body!
      • It can harm the liver.
      • It can affect your brain and ability to think.
      • It is against the law for people under 21 years of age.
  • 11. Stay Hydrated!
      • Your body is made up of 70% water.
      • Drink plenty of fluids to replenish body's sweat during exercise.
      • Drink water throughout the day.
