  • 1. Evaluation in to existing factual writing. Here is a piece of factual writing addressing and discouraging what happens if you buy a pet from a pet store. The first thing that you see when looking at this leaflet/poster is the picture of the dog in it’s kennel with it’s nose sticking out, this is giving people the interpretation that the conditions they are living in are like being in prison, and then some smaller images of puppies with a caption above of ‘puppies are dying!’ by putting this, it’s automatically making the audience feel guilty for innocent and young lives being taken. The colour scheme that they have used for the writing is powerful as they have used red and black, which connotes danger and seriousness, which describes this topic in itself. By using the red font for the main part of the topic it’s automatically grabbing the audience’s attention, this is giving a quick visual message about the leaflet/poster. Red bullet points have also been used so that when you see them and go on to read the text next to them, you think that what they are about to read could be quick raw or distressing. To keep an audiences attention, the message needs to be quick and easy to read, which they have done, they have used nippy sentences, though they could be a bit shorter. Registering is a certain language that has been used to tell the message, and for this poster they have used a mix of formal and informal writing, the first paragraph second and third line down they have put “save pathetic pet shop animals”, this isn’t formal text because of the word ‘pathetic’ being slotted in to what they are saying, though at the same time it is because it isn’t a slang word, it’s just not something you would expect to see in a leaflet/poster of a company that is trying to save animals. The type of text that they have used is more of a feminine font as well, so this shows that they have used a serif font. This will attract a female audience more so, as well as the fact that they have used cute animals to get attention. Avoiding ambiguity, this is where there can be room for interpretation from readers, in this article they have done well to keep it so that there isn’t any room for it, they have kept what they have said clear enough so that the audience will fully understand the message that they are trying to get across. Though in their poster/leaflet they have been bias, because they are telling the audience that they shouldn’t buy from pet stores because the money they get from the sale goes towards puppies being put down, they don’t actually say anything good about pet stores, only bad. So there could be room for change in this department.

In this leaflet/poster, they haven’t managed to give evidence of the argument, they have only told one side of the story and not another, though this is still acceptable as sometimes It can just have one side. They also haven’t referenced any sources in their leaflet/poster as its all primary information; they also don’t contain any legal constraints. Codes of Practice: Accuracy: Whilst this poster/leaflet is supposed to be factual, there is no evidence to support that what they are saying is true. So this is going against the rules if there is no evidence. Though they have made sure that you can clearly tell that the poster/leaflet is distinguished as factual.

This is a poster to give audiences information about diabetes, the colours that they have used for this leaflet are blue and white, this is a good idea because being told that you have something like this can be stressful to some so you will need to be as calm as you can, which the colour blue connotes, the white that they have used is also a nice and fresh colour so it makes it easy for people to be able to read the text. The text that they have used is bold and sturdy, this type of font is sans-serif, this kind of font is normally used for formal material, bold fonts have also been used or headings. With the colouring that has been used and the format of text that has been chose, I would think that it was fit more for men rather than women, though on the let there is a picture of a man and a woman together so this shows that the poster is for both male and females. The first thing that you look at when you see this poster is the blue strip down the left hand side and the text saying ‘What is diabetes?’, this jumps straight in to what the leaflet is about. The bullet points that they have used also stand out from the background, this will also draw you’re eyes to the other bits of information. Information that is on this leaflet is clear as it can be and is really clear in your mind once you’ve read it, as it doesn’t contain any useless information that will confuse readers and there is also no room for interpretation from audiences, this means that they are avoiding ambiguity by showing clear information with no confusion. After doing some research in to what the leaflet Is about I can also confirm that the information that is being given in this leaflet is also accurate, the leaflet is also concise, there is no more than a sentence for each category/bullet point, this will be great for keeping the audiences attention and letting them know about the situation quickly. The information is also slightly bias as under the heading ‘Type two diabetes’ they are only really saying mainly bad parts and what it does, though there is a little section on the blue strip saying ‘Good parts about diabetes’, though the ratio of bad to good is basically nil. Evidence of their argument is vital when telling people about this sort of illness, the audience needs to know the up’s and down’s, and with this leaflet the only story that has been told is basically all of the bad parts to having this illness. A registered language of formal writing has been used for this topic; this tells us that the subject they are talking about is serious and that the company are actually being formal about the subject that they are talking about, they have refrained from using slang words. No referencing of sources has been done as the research is primary. There is also no sign of any legal constraints.

Codes of practice: Accuracy: All of the information given in this leaflet is extremely trust worthy with it being presented by a hospital and also because all of the facts that are given are true, this you can find out via doing research in to the topic that they are talking about and comparing. The leaflet is also distinguished as a fact. Intrusion in to grief or shock: This is one of the rules that this magazine is breaking, when talking about someone’s personal shock/or grief (or in this case illness), they are supposedly meant to come across as sympathetic, which is something this leaflet hasn’t done, they have listed the illness, told us about it and mentioned all the bad parts, without any sympathy at all.
  • 5. This poster is about how abortions are performed. This subject can be very touching for some people if they are against it or even if they have had to have one themselves. The colour scheme that they have used on this are interesting because they have used red, green and white. White is a good colour to use as it’s enables you to be able to see each segment easily, the fact that they have used red connotes danger, of which this subject is.
