The document provides information on different types of digital graphics file formats, including raster graphics, vector graphics, JPEG, TIFF, PSD, AI, and 3DS.
Raster graphics use bitmaps made up of pixels in a grid, so resolution can decrease when resized. Vector graphics use paths that are resolution-independent and scale easily.
JPEG is a common format for uploading images online that is viewable in many programs but loses quality each time it is opened. TIFF retains quality and can contain multiple pages in one file but results in large file sizes. PSD is used for image manipulation in Photoshop and allows for editing layers but also results in large file sizes.
AI is used for logos and
3. Raster Graphics
Raster Graphics use bitmaps made up of megapixels,
which are made in a set grid meaning the resolution
often gets worse if it is stretched larger or smaller.
Examples of raster graphics are JPEGs, TIFF files and
PSDs, which are often large sized files.
1 megapixel is 1,000,000 pixels, so the lower the
megapixel the lower the quality the image.
4. Vector Graphics
Vector Graphics are made up of vectors/paths
which have a start point, and an end point
which are free flowing and are not fixed to a
graph. This means the image can be scaled
easier without it losing quality. They are good
for creating things such as logo’s due to the
fact they can be made bigger without the
image distorting. Examples of vector graphics
are AI and 3DS.
5. JPEG
Stands For Joint photographic experts group
Used For A JPEG can be used for uploading images
to the internet to websites such as
facebook or blogging sites.
Advantage The fact that the file is flexible and can be
opened by many different software's such
as PowerPoint or word, and can also be
used on devises such as phones or tablets,
means that more or less anybody can use
or view a JPEG and it can be easily
downloaded due to the fact you need no
specialist software to use it.
Disadvantage A JPEG loses quality every time it is
opened, meaning that the more a person
views it, the worse the quality of the JPEG
gets. This means that after a while, the file
will become low quality, and cannot be
restored to its original quality.
6. TIFF
Stands For Tagged image file format
Used For TIFF can be used to publish files on to a desktop, so that a file can be
saved straight on to a desktop of a computer or machine.
Advantage TIFF documents that have more then one page can be saved as a single
file document. Doesn’t lose quality due to compression.
“Most TIFF file formats are uncompressed and designed to be independent of any particular
hardware or software. These characteristics mean that you can resize TIFF images,
increasing the number of dots per inch (DPI) without any loss of
quality”.http://www.ehow.com/info_10065420_advantages-disadvantages-tif-
format.html#ixzz2eUmGVQf4
Disadvantage A TIFF file can take up to 100 megabytes or more of storage space so
more then one TIFF images can take up hard disk space quickly, even
small files are too big to send by email and some applications. Most
web browsers cannot open TIFF files, if you have a browser that can it
takes a long time to download or open.
7. PSD
Stands
For
Photoshop Document
Used For PSD can be used to manipulate images and stretch them to different sizes.
Advantag
e
In Photoshop the file can be made up of many different layers which can be
individually edited at any point in time. This means that if you make a mistake
and only notice it later on, you can go back to it and change it without disturbing
any of the other layers. This means you can edit the layers accordingly to the
other layers, E.G. if one layer covers text, you can adjust the layers.
Another advantage of PSD is that you can change the opacity of an image,
meaning you can fade layers, or make other layers more bold. This means you can
have an image which is slightly see through meaning you can put text behind the
image so the you can still see the text even when it is behind an image.
Disadvant
age
Due to the fact a PSD file is made up of many layers, it means that the file can get
very large, and take up a lot of space because of the fact each layer is part of a
file its self.
It is also only usable in Photoshop, meaning that not everybody can view a PSD,
and that if you need to send somebody a PSD, you will have to change the file
type accordingly so that the other person can view the file and open it.
8. AI
Stands For Adobe illustrator art
Used For AI is used to create logos for companies/businesses, it is also
used to represent a company.
Advantage The advantage of AI is that you can use the same image and
scale it bigger or smaller with no loss in definition, which
means that if someone changes there mind on how big or
small they would like the Image you wont have to re-start it
all over again.
Disadvantage A disadvantage of AI is the time and talent needed to create
it, this means that if you don’t have the time or talent to
produce something with AI any mistakes that are small once
you enlarge it they will become visible.
Another disadvantage of AI is that drawings containing
trapping information can only be scaled up to 20 percent
larger or smaller.
9. 3DS
Stands For 3D studio
Used For This is used to make 3D models of objects, meaning you can
see an image from any angle. It can also be used to create
animations of rendering on a 3D model.
A 3DS can also be used to create a moving image in 3D,
which can be used for things such as gaming.
Advantage A 3DS is a very powerful file, meaning that you can create
great detail on the 3D model.
A 3DS is also very flexible meaning it can be used by most
software's so that most people can access them, so long as
they have at least on form of 3D modelling generator.
Disadvantage 3DS’ are in many cases hard to use, meaning it can take a
long time to get used to them, and a very long time to learn
everything about them. They are also an incredibly large file
to save.
12. Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I liked the fact that the shapes went well with
the shape of the body of the seal, and that the
colours looked good as I did them a slightly
different colour to the rest so that you could see
the parts of the body.
What would you improve if you did it again?
I would add more detail to it if I did it again and
spend more time on the facial area of it.
14. Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I made 3 images and I liked them all I think I
worked well with the colours and while they
look realistic they also look like a cartoon.
What would you improve if you did it again?
I would add a lot more detail to them and
choose colours that are more realistic rather
then the bright ones I have used.
16. Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I liked the fact that it has lots of shading on and it looks realistic.
The lips and nose and eyes are all in line which is what I like. It
also looks like it has been painted.
What would you improve if you did it again?
if I was to do this again I would add a background to make it a bit
more colourful.
18. Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I liked the fact that the words I created had the
picture of the word created inside it, and that I
used 3 different Images to create a clipping
mask, and that I also made my text horizontal
and used the last letter for the same word.
What would you improve if you did it again?
I would improve the type of font I used and I
would also choose better images for the text.
20. Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I liked that I used a different picture for each separate word, I
chose pictures that were related to the word. I like the font style
it doesn’t give of a childish image.
What would you improve if you did it again?
if I could do it again I would change the way the words are I
would have them on a different angle.
22. Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I liked the fact that I used a nice font style and
old graphic paper as the background.
What would you improve if you did it again?
I would add more detail to it and add some
pictures.

to red bubble and my
blog.
Schedule
Audience
The audience for my t-shirt will be from 14 to people in their twenties.
30. Digital Flat Plan
This is the image
I have chosen to
work with.
I have added some
effects to outline
her face and used
polygonal lasso tool
to cut out the
shapes for her face
and created the
right colours to
match the original
picture.
I have added some text from lyrics
from her song and then
downloaded a font of dafont.com
that I liked and inserted a picture
into it. This is my final piece.

32. Peer Evaluation
What are the strengths of the final image?
I like how the text at the bottom is presented
nicely
What could be developed if the image was
repeated?
You could outline the text so it has more impact
33. I also made this for a babies vest. I
started out with just a plain white
background and added text to it which
is a quote from little Britain, then I
created a bottle as I thought it went well
with the text and the fact that it is on a
babies piece of clothing. I made it so it is
suitable for a boy or a girl.
34. Peer Evaluation
What are the strengths of the final image?
I like how the design is simple as I think it makes it
more effective
What could be developed if the image was
repeated?
Could make some words bolder and bigger to make
the writing more interesting
35. I also created an Elmo phone
case which I created for all
types of people so the
audience can be any one, I
started it with just a picture of
Elmo and used the lasso tool
to cut out bits so I could make
his shape of body and chose
brighter colours for him so
that it stood out more I then
chose the blue background so
that is suitable for males and
females.
This was my
original image
that I chose
to work on.
36. Peer Evaluation
What are the strengths of the final image?
I like the texture of the Elmo image and how it is
shaded
What could be developed if the image was
repeated?
Could make it available in multiple colours
38. Does your final product reflect your
original intentions?
• Compare your planning/digital flat plans/ storyboards to your final
product
My final product is what I thought it would be although I could of put more
detail into it, it was my first time and thought I did well with it. I made it to
suit the right audience and the colours I used worked well, I stuck to the
same thing all the way through the process as I had already decided from
the start that I would use Katy Perry. In my planning most of my ideas
were about using Katy Perry as she is a celebrity so it might get more
customers rather then something else and the fact that she has just
brought out a new song.
I chose to used the lyrics rather then ‘roar’ as the ones I saw and looked up
on red bubble mostly had roar in them they didn’t have lyrics so i wanted
to make it different and unusual to the rest of the t-shirts being sold.
39. Is your product suitable for your
audience?
My product is suitable for my audience as I made it so that it would be,
it is suitable because of the bright vibrant colours that I used to aim
it towards a younger generation. I used katy perry as she is a well
known celebrity in that target audience and I used the lyrics with
intention of that particular audience as it is a popular song.
40. What do you like/dislike about the
techniques you have used?
I didn’t like using text with the images in the final
product I don’t think it looked professional, I
disliked the font that I chose overall as it wasn’t
appropriate for my target audience because it was
basic and rounded which gives the impression of
a childish attitude. I liked using the lasso tool as it
was a better way to get specific shapes when
using that rather then using the shape button, as
the shape button didn’t have the right shapes and
sizes for what I needed.
41. What do you like/dislike about how
your final product looks?
• I dislike that it has smudges on it as I had
forgotten to remove them but on my other two
designs I liked the fact that it had colour and was
simple but yet looked a bit more professional
then the t-shirt, I disliked the fact that in all of
them when using the lasso tool I wasn’t so
accurate with it so there are rough edges, but it
will take time and practice to be able to be
perfect at it. In future before I upload my image I
would like people to peer assess my work so I can
ensure it is at the best quality I can possibly
achieve.
42. Why did you include the content you
used?
I used the colours as it was aimed towards younger
customers and the brighter colours that I used is
what that type of customers go for. I used the
image as Elmo is a classic and everyone loves him
so I thought it was a good idea to create
something that everyone will like, I used the Katy
Perry image as she is a celebrity and has just
brought out a new song so people that like her
and her new song, people will want to buy
something like that, I used the image of a bottle
on my baby vest design as it went well with the
text and as it is for a baby.
43. What style have you employed in your
products?
I looked at what other people had created on red bubble and
it gave me an idea as most of the people that have
designed the t-shirts on there didn’t have the text and
picture of her from her new video, I chose this because
Katy Perry is a celebrity and is a popular choice. I choose an
Elmo phone case as when I looked on red bubble there was
not much choice out there so I created another one to add
to choice for the customers, and I also chose to do a baby
vest little Britain one as there wasn’t anything on red
bubble about little Britain and It is one of my favourites, so I
chose a quote from it that I thought would be funny and go
well with that fact that it is on a baby vest.
44. What were the strengths and weaknesses
of the pre-production and planning
The strengths of my products was the fact that when I was
planning them they all turned out to the way I was hoping and
are made correctly for the type of audience as I had planned
them to be for certain ages types and I think I achieved that.
The weaknesses of my products is that for my last two designs
I didn’t plan them I just chose an image and a audience and
worked on the images/text.
45. Analyse each of your final print products commenting on the strengths,
weaknesses and aspects you would do differently if you were to repeat
the project
My final product for this looks good
but it doesn’t look professional, it
needed more work on it but I hadn't
realised that until I had uploaded it
onto red bubble, the main weakness
was the smudges on it and it needed
more attention to detail, the
strengths on this Is that it looks goo
on the t-shirt and it suits my audience
that I was aiming for. If I was to do it
again I would take more time and
effort on it.
My final product of this looks good,
but I think I could of added more
colour and images to it. The weakness
in what I have produced is that it looks
a bit plain even though it is for a baby
it needed it some more colour on it
and more images, the strengths of this
is that I wanted it to be made as a
funny quote and it is and that I made
it so it is suitable for a boy and girl by
doing a yellow bottle and black text. If
I could do this again I would add more
images and more colour to it.
My final product looks really
good, I like that fact that it
looks a bit rough on the
edges but it gives it a good
effect, the weakness of this
is that I could of added
some text or a flower or
something in Elmo's hand.
The strength of this is that it
is bright which is what I
wanted it to be and that it
suits all types of ages so it
matched what I was aiming
for.
46. Peer Feedback
T-shirt; I agree with what the person said about the text needed outlining to make a bigger
impact, in future I will try this and see what It is like.
I disagree with nothing that the person said, that gave me good constructive feedback
which in future I will use.
Baby vest; I agree that I could make words bolder and bigger to make a bigger impact as it is
a bit small and you cant really read it from far, in future I will use a bigger font and
highlight bits that are eye catching to make it look better.
I disagree with the persons opinion that they think it looks nice because its plain and simple,
as I think it needed a bit more colour to it and some more pictures, which is what I will
keep in mind for next time.
Phone case; I agree with what the person saying about the style of Elmo and the shading
being nice and that I should also make it available in a range of colours.
I disagree with nothing that the person said as the comments they gave me were right and
next time I try to do something like this I will be able t take these comments into
consideration.
