Question 3: What kind of media institutions
might distribute your media product and
                   why?
Publishing
As my magazine target audience is aimed towards Indie/ Rock/ R&B audiences, my
audience is very similar to Q magazine, NME, which are distributed to be
mainstream instead of niche. Therefore my magazine would be distributed to a
wide audience, by publishing groups such as Beaur Media Group, which similar
magazines are, (Kerrang, Q and Empire) this is what my product magazine would
be published with. They target a larger and wider audience, these are then
distributed to larger retailers, such as WHSmith’s, selected HMV stores and
   Supermarkets.
Who Would Distribute?
Beaur Media Group publish Kerrang! Magazine, as well as Kerrnag! Radio and Kerrang! TV
channel. This is where they promote their products and channels, this is aimed at the ‘indie
kids’. Kerrang! Have a lot of interactive media, since they have a magazine, a radio station and
a TV channel, so Kerrang! Is very well known. By knowing who the target audience is for the
magazine, they know how to aim their products at their target audience, this is to increase
     higher revenue.
I think that my product is a lot like Q magazine and NME, as that is where I have based my
research on, I used their front cover, contents page and double page spread, to help create
my own version for my magazine. It follows the music genre very well, so it relates very well
to one another. Producing a similar magazine to be sold at Beaur, may be risky, but at the
same time, it may be a very big investment, since then, they can relate and advertise their
products on their other products, which will increase the audience and it will become
popular as it is the same music genre.
I would design a magazine which would appeal to my genre of audience, so then they would
enjoy reading it and want to re buy the magazine month after month, this is something that
Beaur would include in their Group.
Advertising My Product
Products such as Kerrang! Are advertised through their Radio Station, TV channel and
also their music magazine, they also use social networking sites to advertise their
company. These sites are Twitter, Facebook and Myspace, this is a very effective
way of advertising your product as it will pop up on websites which people are
looking at, as this may be something similar to what they are looking at. This is a
great and effective way of getting advertisement for your magazine, as people will
see it, become interested and then want to go out and buy it.
For my magazine, I would also advertise it by using the internet as this is probably one
of the easiest ways to do so, I would make sure it was on all the social networking
sites, such as Twitter, Facebook and Myspace, this is a great way to advertise as it
is free, and it’s a great place to find a wide audience of people and genres. I would
also make sure that my magazine is advertised by TV channels, on the radio, on
billboards, this is so many people can see it, so they'll find it interesting and want
to go out and buy it.
Distributing My Product
I would distribute my products to a larger mainstream audience, I think it would be more suitable
to distribute my magazines to stores such as Sainsburys, Tesco, WHSmith, and other
supermarkets. I would also provide a subscription option online of my magazines website, so
you won’t have to pay as much as you would if you bought it every month. The copies of the
magazine would come through the post every month to the readers if they have subscribed
to my magazine. This may end up being more pricey since the reader would have to pay for
    postage and packaging.
I would also make sure that my magazine was advertised a lot online, by having adverts pop up
on peoples pages, to link them to the magazine if there looking at something which is in the
same interest. This would then make a larger audience, so the magazine would then become
more popular as people will be seeing it a lot being advertised.
