2. The main image of the poster is
positioned in the centre, taking up
the majority of space. This could
be done to show the focus of both
characters, allowing the audience
to recognise that they are the
protagonists of ‘Stepmom’. All of
the colours within the poster are
slightly autumnal, with hints of
orange and brown in each shade of
colour. This could reflect the idea
of deterioration, and use the image
of autumn and leaves falling off
trees to parallel to the idea of life
being lost, soon to be replaced.
3. The typography of the title ‘Stepmom’ is in all capitals with a bold underlining of the
word underneath. This could be done to represent the importance of this character
within the film, showing dominance and power they may have or are attributed with.
However, this is contrasted by the use of the colour white, representing the calm,
innocent nature of the ‘stepmom’. This juxtaposition of dominance and purity could
portray complications within the film between the two protagonists, the ‘mother’ and
‘stepmom’. By the title being situated at the bottom of the poster, underneath the main
image could highlight that the complications within the film are put aside due to the
protagonists and are left ‘beneath’ due to the dominance of their characters and stories
which may arise from their relationship.
4. The tagline within this poster has three
separate quotes, all of which implicitly
stating that there is complications
throughout the film, through words such as
‘tears’ and ‘be there’. The letter positioning
and font used within these sentences look
like the lettering and carry elements
commonly seen on grave stones and in
association with death. Therefore, this could
infer that within the film there shall be
elements of sadness and death. By the way
in which the tagline of the poster is
positioned at the side could also represent
the idea of putting things aside when
situations like death occur. All of which
representing elements within the storyline
of the film.
