Why Egypt turns a blind eye on terrorism? Topics that will be covered: Economic, Political, Religious Ideologies, Main Motivation, and Tactics.
Egypt has had political problems for decade’s, and with the political upheaval in 2011, it gets worse with each side that claims control. Prices on goods have rose, due to due to lack of adequate product, and the monetary system weakening. Many countries have sent aid but the controlling faction(s) have either misused or out right stolen finances. Aid has gone for organizations that commit terrorist acts. (Singh, 2013).
For years, the government has used its power to benefit its own interest, that has lead to several revolts. With change of government, does not always mean, better government. Civil unrest leads to lack of instability. Factions of religious groups, have caused the upheaval in recent years, to cause political discourse today. (Hellyer, 2014; Abdalla, 1993).
Egyptians are mainly Sunni Muslim. There are a few off shoots of the main faith. Some have been on the radical side, that want to impose strict Islamic law on all, and will carryout what ever means to accomplish the task. These have taken on the ideas of the Muslim Brotherhood, which have lead to problems within the government today. There re many ideas of how the people should act with in the ideas of the Sunni culture. (Abdalla, 1993).
The Egyptian government, relies on foreign aid to work, and manage day to day. The terrorist networks that operate out of their nation to attack the nation of Israel, and other targets in the middle east, are not pursues on a large scale by the government in power. Their views are help on such scale to receive aid, and not to much to have themselves overthrown. (Abdalla, 1993).
Many Egyptian soldiers receive very little in the way of training, for defending their nation, so one the low level many of these personnel of intimidated, or paid to look the other way. The government pays the military very little, and supplies and equipment mainly come from foreign aid. Many people come to the military for training, and then disappear to the groups that commit terrorist acts, either for better pay or political standing amongst their families. Egypt, has had many years of turmoil with their neighbors the Israelis in which they either aid Hamas members in their attacks on Israel from the Sinai sector. They have not been active in many years to end attacks or even stopping Hamas members from entering Egyptian territories. (Al Jazeera Center for Studies, 2014).
As some can tell from 9/11 and the Murrah Bombing, the U.S. attacks are done for various reasons. Most of the reason are pretty basic: political, economic, and religious reasons. But each group has their own reasons why they want to attack the U.S. whether it is one of the reasons listed or if it is because we were helping out on of their enemies during a war. Who really knows why they want to start a war or cause a terroristic attack? Only they do for sure or they just could all be mad, crazy, etc.
Law enforcement need to work together when it comes to fighting against terrorism in the U.S. They also have to work together sometimes with the military depending on the situation at hand. Most terroristic type activity will fall under the FBI jurisdiction but depending on the situation and whose jurisdiction it was found under; then it will be a joint jurisdiction. Law enforcement need to know they can count on other law enforcement agencies to do their part regarding terroristic activity.
