    • WHAT IS SKYPE?
      • Is a software application that allows users to make voice calls over the Internet. Calls to other users of the service and, in some countries, to free-of-charge numbers, are free, while calls to other landlines and mobile phones can be made for a fee. Additional features include instant messaging, file transfer and video conferencing.
      • Skype is an IP telephony service provider that offers free calling between computers and low-cost calling to regular telephones that aren't connected to the Internet. Included in the free service is a soft-phone application that can be downloaded to any laptop or desktop computer.
    •
    • HOW TO USE IT
      • Skype is, basically, a way to call anyone in the world – for free. Anyone who has a computer, or Skype-capable phone .
      • You could probably manage it without any problem.
    • HOW DO WE GET IT?
      • You go to www.skype.com and download it. It takes a few minutes to install, and as soon as you registered a call-name, it is ready to use. It is that simple. Seriously.
    • WHAT DO WE HAVE TO PAY FOR?
      • Nothing! It’s FREE to create a call name, and free to call anyone else with Skype . No hidden charges, no expiration dates. Just free!
    • DO WE NEED A MICROPHONE AND HEADSET?
      • If your computer or phone is already equipped for this, you needn’t buy anything either. You should get a microphone and headset – or if you simply just want one.
    • HOW DO WE MAKE A CALL?
      • You just log into Skype , click on the contact you want to call, and press the call button . It will then ring them – like a phone – and they can answer. Just like a real phone.
    • DOES IT SOUND STRANGE, TALKING THROUGH A COMPUTER?
      • The quality of your speakers will have something to do with it, but we can honestly tell anyone it sounds very phone-like on a Laptop or desktop computer.
    • WHAT ELSE CAN WE DO FOR FREE WITH SKYPE?
      • All you need is the camera . Just select the option and you’re ready . You can also instant message .
      • Now you’ve realized Skype is pretty cool . It may not be a necessity in the US, where local calls are free, but over here in Mexico it is a way better. . It’s particularly fantastic when making naughty phone calls to another country – free calls mean you can take your time and have a proper conversation.

    • CONS
      • Setup may be time-consuming

    • CONSIDERATIONS FOR TEACHERS
      • In order for students to have a rewarding and safe experience with a new technology, teachers must first be familiar with it. Skype can be a valuable tool in foreign language learning, but as with any use of the internet, it does not come without risks.
