CLEMENTINUM historic complex of buildings, built at the area of 2hectares It is currently used as the National Library in 1556 transformed to a Jesuit college in 1773, Clementinum was established as anobservatory, library and university There is the Astronomical Tower which is 68 metreshigh

NATIONAL THEATRE neo-Renaissance building dating from 1868-1883 in 1881, fire broke out and destroyed much of the newbuilding this event was considered a national catastrophe money for the reconstruction was collected from allsocial classes today the National Theatre consists of three artisticensembles – opera, ballet and drama

NATIONAL AVENUE – NÁRODNÍ TŘÍDA situated at the borders of the Old Town and the NewTown one of the important avenues in Prague a brutal intervention against a peaceful demonstrationon November 17, 1989 happened in the National avenue the demonstration started the Velvet Revolution and theend of the Communist regime in Czechoslovakia
