“PR can contribute a lot for promotion of Innovations”- Prof. Anil Gupta“There is a need to meet creative minds of the country and PublicRelations can contribute a lot forpromotion of innovations”, saidProf Anil K Gupta, Executive Vice Chairman, National InnovationFoundation.Delivering a key note address on the subject ‘Public Relations forGrassroots Innovations’, organised byPublic Relations Society ofIndia (PRSI),Ahmedabad Chapter, Prof Anil Gupta said “No society candevelop without focus on innovations. The issue is how we share thiswith larger community.”Citing an example of Shodhyatra, Prof Gupta said “Our goal is whateverthe creativity our people have,add the value for it. A knowledgebased approach for the quality of life is required.”“Does our PR connect curiosity, compassion and collaboration enough?there is a need to review andanalyse our PR efforts,” added ProfGupta.‘PR should not become one way communication but it should two waycommunications connecting thepeople. It’s a new responsibility forthe communicators. We should understand that Innovation,Enterpriseand Investment are triangle,’ said Prof Gupta.He also said “There is lot of happenings in our country. How do wecommunicate this spirit? There arecreative forces, energies. There isa need to connect it and somebody has to connect it”Prof Gupta is reputed for his dedicated work to provide platform torecognise, respect and reward localgrass root innovators. For thispurpose, he has created a network called Honey Bee and an NGO calledSRISTI. Through these institutions, he has helped local innovators toacquire thousands of patents andpromote their innovations all over theworld.While he has been successful in collecting the innovators together,his system has not been thatsuccessful in promoting the awareness orimage of either his institutions or the innovators. He candidlyadmitted this lacuna. It is in this area that he found PR as aresourced skill and PRSI members a greathelp. Some of the members, infact, made some commitments for advertising, designing, poster makingetc on the spot. The enthusiasm of the members to help really touchedProf Gupta’s heart.Prof Gupta also called upon PRSI to help in his dream of creating aMultimedia Innovation ExhibitionCentre in Ahmedabad where space couldbe provided for showcasing grass root innovations to inspirechildren.It was one of the largest attended gatherings of PRSI AhmedabadChapter where students ofNational
