dotProject is a Project Management tool which means that it is designed to assist in the management of defined project work.
* Project Managers can use the system to setup the tasks required to be performed and then:
o Assign the required dates;
o Parent and child relationships;
o Set up some limited dependencies (dependencies is an area that will be worked on in the next major release and you may find that in 1.0.2 and 2.0 these are still not exactly what you are expecting);
o Assign human resources to perform the tasks;
o Assign physical resources to tasks;
o Set up project milestones;
o Use status information provided by project members to manage project deliverables and schedules; and
o Record basic project information such as statements of requirements, indicated budgets and so on.
* Project members can then use the system to:
o Update their progress on task and create log entries to advise other project members of the status of tasks;
o Manage their daily workload by using a variety of different views of project and project tasks;
o Access and/or create files and supporting documentation generated against projects and/or tasks;
o Discuss issues with other project members via forums;
o Manage diaries for task and or events.
dotProject is about the day to day management of planned project activities.
