2. Camera Person’s Role
• The role of the camera person is to capture the footage for the film and therefore plays a significant
role throughout the production. By also taking the role of the cameraperson, I had to ensure that I
took the correct shots for my film and use the correct framing so that everything within the scene
was present within the frame. I used a webcam to capture the shots that I needed: this was attached
to my laptop so that the image was automatically transferred to the software and then to the
timeline.
3. Filming Sessions
• The filming sessions took place over four weekends on both Saturday and Sunday as I had the time
available for filming. Filming would take place for just over five hours, this allowed me to work at a
consistent speed so that I could produce my film to a high standard.
4. Strengths & Weaknesses Of Camera Work
• The strengths of my cinematography work in my production was being able to capture the correct shots
for my film. The problem that I encountered often was an issue with lighting: throughout filming I
had to alter the lighting within the room that I was filming in resulting in closing curtains or using a
flashlight on my phone directed at the scene that I was filming. As the background colours of my
scenes where dark, this also conflicted with the lighting meaning that the objects in the foreground
weren’t as visible or ended up looking to bright. From this, I learnt that it is important to have a
permanent light source for the production so that the colour/lighting of the film is consistent and
doesn’t alter throughout the film.
5. Evaluation Of Camera Person Role
• Overall, I became more knowledgeable about the role of a camera person and the factors that need to
be taken into consideration when filming such as the lighting. Something else that I recognised that
affected my filming was the weather: even though I was creating a stop-motion animated film I
realised it was easier to film during days where the weather was cloudy and dull as this had a
minimal effect on the lighting whereas, when it was sunny, the extra light interfered with the filming
that was taking place, causing some of the scenes being filmed to look too bright. Having the role of
the camera person allowed myself to realise the important factors to consider when filming and also
capture the shots that really help to establish what is in the scene.
